Responsibilities && Qualifications RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs fiber optic acceptance testing, certification, troubleshooting, and documentation supporting AMC Base Area Network modernization. Conducts OTDR, insertion loss, end-to-end continuity, polarity, and optical performance testing for newly installed and existing fiber infrastructure.
- Produces test reports, validates compliance with project standards, identifies defects, and coordinates corrective actions with installation and engineering teams. REQUIRED SKILLS
- 3 years of experience
- Must have an active Secret clearance
- Hands-on fiber-optic testing, certification, troubleshooting, and acceptance testing
- OTDR and OLTS/power-meter/light-source testing for multimode and single-mode fiber
- Inspection, cleaning, polarity verification, loss testing, fault isolation, and end-to-end link validation
- Ability to interpret fiber records, route diagrams, test traces, connector types, splice points, and link budgets
- Documentation of test results with clear pass/fail evidence and traceability to cable/link identifiers
- Knowledge of fiber installation, splicing, patching, labeling, and structured-cabling practices
- Ability to identify degraded, damaged, incorrectly terminated , or out-of-tolerance links and recommend corrective action
- Safe work practices in communications rooms, CEFs, manholes /handholes, and active facilities DESIRED SKILLS
- Air Force/DoD ISP/OSP fiber testing experience
- BICSI/TIA testing standards and Government acceptance documentation
- EXFO, Fluke Networks, Viavi, AFL, or equivalent fiber-test platforms
- Tier 1/Tier 2 certification and fiber characterization
- Campus backbone, long-haul, OSP, and high-count fiber environments
- Fiber splicing, fusion-splice inspection, or structured-cabling installation credentials CERTIFICATIONS BICSI Technician or equivalent fiber certification preferred
