Accounting Manager, US Operations - Mining/Mineral Processing
Utah, Nevada, California
Remote with travel to project sites in the United States.
Blue Moon Metals is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Manager for its US operations. This role is ideal for a candidate with a strong background in mining or mill operations, who will support site leadership and help build the finance function as the US assets move into operations. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will oversee all financial activities, ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, and support strategic financial planning. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, enjoys being close to operations, has a deep understanding of IFRS and public company accounting and the ability to drive operational efficiency in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full cycle of accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll for US entities.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly site reporting packages for the group consolidation in accordance with IFRS requirements.
- Serve as the primary finance business partner to site leadership, providing financial analysis, operational insights, and decision support.
- Lead finance support for US assets acquisitions, with initial focus on the Springer Mine and Processing Facility.
- Work with the Corporate Finance team to evaluate and implement new accounting policies as the US assets transition through the mine life cycle (exploration, development, construction, operations).
- Implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial records.
- Coordinate and lead the US component annual audit process in collaboration with the Corporate Finance team and external auditors to ensure timely completion of all audit requirements.
- Support the Corporate FP&A Manager in budget preparation, financial forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll and corporation tax regulations; prepare and file applicable tax returns.
- Oversee cash management, banking relationships, and treasury functions.
- Partner with operations, engineering, procurement, and maintenance teams to improve financial controls, reporting, and operational performance.
- Build scalable processes and controls.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in financial operations.
- Help to build and mentor the finance team, fostering professional development and a collaborative work environment.
- Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analyses as requested.
- Lead cost accounting, inventory accounting, and operational reporting processes to support mining and mineral processing activities.
- Support accounting and reporting for capital projects, asset capitalization, and project development activities throughout the mine life cycle.
Qualifications
- Active CPA in good standing and eligible to work in the United States.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years’ progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS (US GAAP is an asset), tax regulations, and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience with enterprise ERP systems, preferably SAP and advanced MS Excel skills.
- Experience in mining, mineral processing, manufacturing, construction, or other capital-intensive industries strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of cost accounting, inventory accounting, and project/capital accounting.
- Experience supporting development, construction, commissioning, or operating assets.
- Experience with ERP implementation or optimization, preferably SAP.
- Ability to build strong relationships with operational and technical teams in a site-based environment.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Experience in the metals, manufacturing, or industrial sectors is an asset.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, with willingness to travel to site as required.
