Job Requirements

We are seeking an experienced GIS Developer to design, develop, implement, support, and maintain custom and Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) GIS applications and systems for a State of Texas client.

Local candidates only: Candidates must currently reside in the Austin, Texas area or within a maximum 50-mile radius of Austin. This is a strictly onsite position, requiring attendance five days per week. Remote and hybrid work arrangements are not available.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, support, maintain, and enhance custom GIS applications and systems.
Design and implement new features, functionality, and application modules.
Review, modify, test, and optimize front-end and GIS-related code.
Publish, tune, and troubleshoot ArcGIS Server map services.
Perform GIS data analysis, validation, and quality reviews.
Monitor application performance and implement efficiency improvements.
Identify and resolve security risks and vulnerabilities.
Upgrade GIS applications and systems in accordance with TxDOT policies.
Evaluate user requests and provide technical assistance to end users and stakeholders.
Support both project-based initiatives and operational activities.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, divisions, districts, vendors, and other stakeholders.

Required Technical Skills

8+ years of experience in GIS application development, testing, installation, and deployment.
Strong experience with Esri ArcGIS technologies and GIS application development.
HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and Streamlit.
C# and .NET development.
ArcGIS JavaScript API versions 3.x and 4.x.
ArcSDE, Portal for ArcGIS, and ArcGIS Server.
ArcGIS Desktop tools, including ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcCatalog.
Esri APIs, ArcGIS API for Python, ArcPy, and ArcGIS REST API.
GIS application configuration, troubleshooting, and map service optimization.
Development tools such as Visual Studio, SSMS, SQL Developer, and Azure DevOps, or equivalent tools.

Preferred / Additional Skills

Azure DevOps and Jira for project management, user stories, bugs, and test cases.
Git, GitLab, and other version control systems.
Oracle, SQL, and PL/SQL.
Agile development methodologies.
FME Desktop/Server, including workbench and workflow development.
ArcGIS Enterprise installation and configuration, including Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server, Data Stores, and ArcGIS Online.
Server administration and configuration, including IIS and AWS.
AI prompt engineering and AI-powered coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code.

Candidates must have 10–12+ years of overall experience.
Candidates must currently reside within 50 miles of Austin, Texas.
Candidates must be available to work onsite five days per week.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
