Role Description

The Director Tax Services is a full-time, on-site leadership role based in Schaumburg, IL. This position oversees the tax services practice, including managing client engagements, reviewing complex individual and business tax returns, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. The Director leads and mentors tax professionals, assigns and supervises work, and supports their professional development and technical growth. Day-to-day responsibilities include advising clients on tax planning strategies, resolving tax issues, monitoring changing tax laws, and maintaining high-quality standards for analysis, documentation, and reporting. The Director also collaborates with firm leadership on practice development, contributes to business development initiatives, and helps shape processes that support efficiency, accuracy, and excellent client service.

Qualifications

• Strong technical tax expertise across individual, corporate, partnership, and multistate returns, with the ability to interpret and apply complex tax regulations and guidance.
• Demonstrated leadership skills, including team management, coaching, performance oversight, and the ability to foster a collaborative, high-performing environment.
• Proficiency with tax preparation and research software, general accounting systems, and advanced Microsoft Excel and Word capabilities.
• Excellent communication and client service skills, including the ability to present complex tax concepts clearly, build long-term relationships, and handle sensitive client matters with discretion.
• Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a detail-oriented approach to review, documentation, and process improvement.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required; a bachelor s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with an advanced tax or accounting degree preferred.
• Significant experience in public accounting with progressive responsibility in tax services; prior experience in a supervisory or director-level tax role is highly beneficial.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development, staying current with tax law changes, and upholding high standards of ethics and professionalism.
