Job description
Business Analyst
Location: Houston, TX (Remote, US; Houston-based candidates preferred) | Reports To: Director of Product | Contract-to-Hire
Overview
Our client is seeking a Business Analyst to be the research and requirements engine for its pharmacy management software: an end-to-end platform for compounding pharmacies covering e-prescribing, production and batching, labeling, inventory and billing, now being modernized into a cloud-based SaaS product. Working as the right hand to the product leader, you'll build the evidence base the roadmap stands on (the pharmacy management market, competitors and what pharmacies actually need) and turn it into clear, buildable requirements. This role starts as a contract-to-hire engagement with the intent to convert to full-time.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain market and competitor research for the pharmacy management systems (PMS) market: offerings, investment, pricing, positioning and where the product can win
- Spend time with compounding pharmacies (interviews, focus groups, workflow observation and data) to find the highest-value problems, including in the context of USP 795/797 workflows
- Mine voice-of-customer input from support, implementation, training and client success teams, and own the ticket-to-requirements pipeline, including AI-assisted ticket analysis
- Write the feature requirements the team builds from: problem statements, user stories, acceptance criteria, process/workflow documentation and the business case
- Cover real workflows end to end (e-prescribing, prescription processing, production and batching, labeling, inventory, billing and accounts receivable) and integrations such as POS, IVR, QuickBooks and payments
- Support the module currently in build and lead full requirements definition for the dispensing/Rx module, vetted with the Solution Architect and Principal Architect
- Define migration, transition and API/integration requirements for the rebuilt platform
- Work with product and design on wireframes and UI requirements for a data-heavy WinForms (DevExpress) product
- Write requirements a development vendor can be held to, and treat requirements readiness as a gate before work moves forward
- Maintain a high-quality backlog in Azure DevOps with traceability from evidence to delivered work
- Work in two-week sprints with daily stand-ups; partner with QA so acceptance criteria are testable and with engineering on sequencing
- Define and track feature success measures: adoption, workflow time saved, error and rework reduction, and customer satisfaction
- Use AI-assisted research and analysis (ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude), verified against real customer evidence
Required Qualifications
- 3-5 years as a business analyst, product analyst or similar, including requirements ownership for a SaaS or platform product
- Demonstrated market and competitor research experience, turning research into prioritized, buildable product recommendations
- Strong requirements craft: user stories, acceptance criteria, process/workflow documentation and backlog refinement
- Strong Agile experience (Scrum, SAFe or similar)
- Experience working directly with engineering and QA through delivery, acceptance and release
Preferred Qualifications
- Azure DevOps or Jira for backlog management and delivery
- Use of AI-enabled tools to improve research, documentation and analysis
- Healthcare, pharmacy or regulated-industry experience; pharmacy management systems (PMS) experience is a strong plus
- Background with workflow-heavy systems such as pharmacy platforms, EMR, ERP, billing or inventory systems
- Experience supporting a product through modernization or a move to the cloud
- Experience with third-party integrations or vendor partners (e-prescribing, payments, POS), including holding a development vendor to acceptance standards
- Familiarity with pharmacy claims and billing standards (e.g., NCPDP) or insurance-claims workflows
- Customer research experience: interviews, focus groups, workflow studies or advisory programs
- Experience defining requirements for .NET/desktop or data-heavy applications, including wireframing
Pay rate: $48/hr. This is a 6-month contract-to-hire position, remote in the US (Houston, TX preferred).
