Job Description

A wireless charging test team in Cupertino is looking for a Mechanical Test Automation Engineer to design and refine the fixtures, nests and jigs that hold a wide range of charging accessories for robotic test runs. The main focus is mechanical and CAD work. Python is used only for light script maintenance, because an in-house developer owns the test framework. You’ll work in a shared makerspace with electrical engineers, software developers and program managers.

Responsibilities:

  • Design custom test fixtures, nest plates and alignment jigs in 3D CAD for a range of wireless charging accessories
  • Prototype and iterate on fixtures with 3D printing and light fabrication, then assemble and calibrate them
  • Integrate actuators, stages and sensors into test benches built for reliable, unattended overnight runs
  • Adjust test tunables and maintain existing Python scripts as needed
  • Run charge stability, regression and protocol tests on Qi, Qi2 and magnetic charging setups
  • Find the root cause of electromechanical and firmware issues, and write clear bug reports for cross-functional teams

Key Qualifications:

  • BS in ME, Mechatronics, EE or a related field (or equivalent experience), with 3+ years testing electromechanical or embedded systems
  • Strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks, NX or similar) for fixture and jig design
  • Hands-on rapid prototyping (3D printing, light fabrication) and actuator/sensor integration
  • Experience isolating defects across hardware, firmware and software
  • Working Python skills for editing and maintaining test scripts
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including test plans and bug reports

Nice to Have:

  • Familiarity with Qi, Qi2 or MagSafe (training provided)
  • USB-PD experience
  • Instrument control (SCPI, VISA, Serial) with power supplies, electronic loads and DAQs
  • Robotics or motion-stage automation experience
  • Git, HIL pipelines, SQL or test telemetry dashboards

Location: Cupertino, CA (onsite, Monday–Friday)

Duration: 12 months

Pay Rate: $55/hr
