We are seeking a highly skilled Kotlin Backend Engineer to design, develop, and support scalable backend services for a mission-critical financial platform. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving complex distributed systems challenges, building modern APIs, processing large-scale data workloads, and driving high-performance application development in a collaborative Agile environment.

Job Description
As a Kotlin Backend Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining backend services supporting a payment and transaction platform ecosystem, including API services, file processing systems, real-time event processing, and secure file transfer capabilities.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain production-grade backend services and applications.
  • Build and support scalable API platform capabilities, including RESTful APIs and GraphQL services.
  • Develop solutions that handle large-volume data processing, large-file processing, and batch workloads.
  • Design and implement event-driven architectures using Kafka and related messaging technologies.
  • Create and optimize scalable caching solutions to improve system performance, reliability, and responsiveness.
  • Collaborate with product managers, infrastructure teams, security teams, and fellow engineers to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Implement automated testing strategies and ensure software quality through best engineering practices.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize production systems to ensure high availability and operational efficiency.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional Java software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend development.
  • Hands-on experience developing applications using Kotlin and Micronaut.
  • Strong experience with vanilla Kotlin and Java/Spring Boot development.
  • Demonstrated expertise building and supporting enterprise-scale API platforms, including REST APIs and GraphQL.
  • Experience designing and implementing solutions using Kafka and PostgreSQL.
  • Production experience working with large-scale data processing, large-file processing, and batch processing systems.
  • Experience implementing and supporting scalable caching solutions in production environments.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted software development tools such as GitHub Copilot or similar solutions.
  • Strong understanding of automated testing frameworks, CI/CD practices, and Agile software development methodologies.
  • Experience designing scalable, secure, and highly available distributed systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing and deploying Agentic AI solutions, including production-ready AI agents.
  • Experience building Conversational AI applications, particularly for customer-facing or service-oriented use cases.
  • Experience integrating AI/LLM capabilities into enterprise applications and business workflows.
  • Experience developing applications within PCI-compliant or highly regulated environments.
  • Background working in large-scale retail, e-commerce, payments, financial services, or transaction-processing platforms.
  • Experience with cloud-native architectures and microservices-based systems.
