Java Senior Engineer

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Java Developer to join our development team on a contract basis. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, AWS, and CI/CD and be comfortable working across backend development, cloud-based applications, and deployment workflows.

The candidate should be able to work independently, understand existing systems quickly, develop clean and maintainable code, and collaborate effectively with technical and business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based applications using Java 21.
• Develop and enhance applications using Spring Boot and Spring Framework.
• Design, build, and consume REST APIs and JSON-based integrations.
• Support lightweight web applications using Thymeleaf, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Develop, deploy, and support applications in AWS environments.
• Work with AWS services including ECS, API Gateway, and DynamoDB.
• Manage source code using Git/GitLab.
• Build, maintain, and troubleshoot GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
• Contribute to application architecture, implementation decisions, code reviews, and deployment practices.
• Support Terraform and infrastructure-as-code initiatives.
• Troubleshoot application issues, cloud deployments, logs, build pipelines, and environment-related problems.
• Follow software engineering best practices for coding, testing, documentation, security, and operational reliability.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools where appropriate to improve development productivity and code quality.

Required Qualifications

• Strong professional experience developing applications using Java.
• Experience with Java 21 or recent Java versions.
• Strong hands-on experience with Spring Boot / Spring Framework.
• Experience designing, developing, and consuming REST APIs.
• Strong understanding of JSON and API integration patterns.
• Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Experience with Git-based source control, preferably GitLab.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, preferably GitLab CI/CD.
• Practical experience developing, deploying, or supporting applications in AWS.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and effectively in a contract environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Thymeleaf.
• Hands-on experience with:
  • Amazon ECS
  • Amazon API Gateway
  • Amazon DynamoDB
• Experience with Terraform / Infrastructure as Code.
• Professional experience using IntelliJ IDEA.
• Experience with AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar tools.
• Experience troubleshooting cloud deployments, application logs, build pipelines, and production/environment issues.
• Knowledge of secure coding practices and cloud application security.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on Java Developer who can work comfortably across backend development, REST API integrations, lightweight frontend development, AWS cloud environments, and CI/CD workflows.

The candidate should be comfortable understanding existing applications, delivering enhancements and integrations, troubleshooting issues, and working independently while collaborating with the broader development team.

Experience with AWS, GitLab CI/CD, Terraform, and AI-assisted development tools is highly valued.
