Systems Lab Engineer – Linux / Hardware Validation

Job Type: Contract
Work Arrangement: [Onsite/Hybrid – Location]
Shift: Multiple shifts available
Schedule: Must be willing to work overtime and weekends as needed.

Position Overview

We are looking for a Systems Lab Engineer with hands-on experience in Linux, networking, hardware testing, system debugging, and board/system validation.

The ideal candidate has a strong systems-thinking mindset and can quickly become productive in a lab environment. The successful candidate should be able to understand hardware and software interactions, troubleshoot system-level issues, perform validation testing, and document results clearly.

Candidates should be able to become fully productive within 1–2 weeks.

Shift Requirements

Current support coverage includes:

  • 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM

  • 6:00 PM – 2:00 AM

  • 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM

  • One weekend day as scheduled

Must be flexible to work overtime and weekends when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble, build, configure, and install development platforms and server systems.

  • Prepare circuit boards for detailed solder rework performed by specialized lab teams.

  • Set up and use oscilloscopes and other lab equipment to collect and analyze signal waveform data.

  • Perform mechanical rework using basic power tools, including a Dremel.

  • Execute system and hardware validation tests.

  • Collect, analyze, and document test results.

  • Screen boards and modules as part of validation, troubleshooting, and debugging activities.

  • Perform system-level troubleshooting across hardware, software, and networking components.

  • Support board bring-up and system bring-up activities.

  • Assist with lab shipping, receiving, equipment tracking, and inventory management.

  • Maintain and organize laboratory equipment and work areas.

  • Identify opportunities to improve lab processes, testing procedures, and overall efficiency.

  • Clearly document test procedures, issues, findings, and results.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree, diploma/certification in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in an electronics, hardware, systems, or testing laboratory.

  • Experience with silicon bring-up, board-level validation, system validation, or hardware testing.

  • Strong understanding of basic computer architecture and system components.

  • Hands-on experience with hardware/software debugging and system-level troubleshooting.

  • Strong working knowledge of Linux command line.

  • Basic to intermediate understanding of networking and server systems.

  • Familiarity with board bring-up and customer/system support.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Good attention to detail.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

Candidates with the following experience will be strongly considered:

  • BMC (Baseboard Management Controller) and server management processors.

  • Server maintenance and troubleshooting.

  • Basic networking, including TCP/IP, Ethernet, DNS, and connectivity troubleshooting.
