Database Administrator

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Development Database Administrator (DBA) with strong hands-on database development and coding expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle. The ideal candidate will be responsible for database design, development, performance optimization, administration, and solution implementation.

This role requires a technically strong professional who can independently write complex SQL code, develop database solutions, analyze requirements, and collaborate with development and infrastructure teams. Candidates whose experience is primarily focused on production support, monitoring, or code reviews without substantial hands-on development experience will not be a good fit.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement, and maintain database solutions using Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle.
• Write, optimize, and troubleshoot complex T-SQL and PL/SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and other database objects.
• Perform database design, schema development, data modeling, and application database integration.
• Implement and manage high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) solutions, including SQL Server Always On.
• Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, monitoring, backup, and recovery.
• Develop and maintain ETL processes and reporting solutions using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
• Utilize scripting tools and languages, including PowerShell and cron-based scheduling, to automate database operations and processes.
• Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into database designs and application solutions.
• Troubleshoot complex database issues and work collaboratively with application development, infrastructure, and networking teams.
• Support database environments hosted in Microsoft Azure and/or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
• Apply system-level knowledge of operating systems, networking, firewalls, and database connectivity to support effective solution development.
• Evaluate and leverage newer SQL Server technologies and capabilities to improve database performance, reliability, and maintainability.
• Work with Snowflake environments where applicable.

Required Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server administration, database design, and development.
• Strong coding and database development skills, including advanced T-SQL programming.
• Professional experience working with Oracle databases and strong PL/SQL programming skills.
• Experience with SQL Server high availability and disaster recovery, including Always On, backup, and recovery.
• Expertise in database performance tuning, query optimization, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS.
• Experience with scripting and automation using PowerShell, cron, or similar tools.
• Ability to independently develop database solutions and deliver working code.
• Experience gathering requirements, conducting data analysis, and translating business needs into technical and application designs.
• Knowledge of operating systems, networking, firewalls, and database connectivity.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with application developers and infrastructure teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Snowflake database development or administration.
• Experience working with Microsoft Azure and/or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
• Familiarity with newer SQL Server versions, features, and development technologies.
• Experience integrating databases with enterprise applications and data processing solutions.

Work Arrangement

This is a remote engagement for approximately 12 months. Occasional travel to the Los Angeles may be required.
