Application Cloud Engineer

Role Summary
This position involves managing and maintaining cloud-based applications and infrastructure on AWS within a dynamic environment. The focus is on ensuring scalability, performance, and security of cloud systems, requiring collaboration with development, operations, and security teams. The role includes supporting 24/7 production systems and participating in incident response and system recovery efforts.

Responsibilities

• Provision and manage AWS infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.
• Manage Amazon EKS clusters, including provisioning, upgrades, and node group management.
• Configure and maintain EKS networking components like VPC CNI, security groups for pods, and ingress controllers.
• Develop and deploy containerized applications using ECS and Lambda across multiple environments.
• Monitor system health and troubleshoot issues using AWS CloudWatch and other observability tools.
• Automate daily health checks with AWS CLI or Lambda scripts and report system status.
• Collaborate with development and DevOps teams to create fault-tolerant, stateless applications.
• Implement performance and scalability improvements to container environments and orchestration strategies.
• Support incident management by troubleshooting and resolving cloud, container, and database issues.
• Maintain and improve deployment pipelines, security, and compliance through automated code scanning and approvals.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 8 years with a Bachelor’s degree, 6 years with a Master’s, or 12 years of experience with a high school diploma/equivalent.
• At least 3 years of hands-on IT experience with AWS and cloud deployment strategies.
• Proven experience configuring and managing AWS services such as EKS, Lambda, and ECR.
• Proficiency in scripting languages including Python, Bash, and Node.js.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools like GitHub, GitLab, and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of disaster recovery planning and implementation.
• Relevant AWS certifications (e.g., AWS DevOps Engineer, Solutions Architect Associate).
• Strong understanding of cloud architecture, autoscaling, load balancing, monitoring, and alerting.
• Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• This position requires eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance. In accordance with federal law, U.S. citizenship is required.

Publishing Pay Range: $64.00 - $68.00 Hourly

This position is based in the remote US Eastern, Central, or Mountain time zones.
