The NP/PA works with a variety of healthcare professionals/security officers in a correctional environment to provide basic medical services supervised by a licensed Physician. NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSResponds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the facility. Identifies patient health problems and prescribes treatment under the direction of a physician. Implements medical care utili Provides education to inmate/patient, healthcare staff, and correctional staff. Documents all healthcare contacts.

Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills. Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and contr olled medications. Delegates to and supervises other team members as appropriate. Adheres to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection contr ol practices. Attends training and meetings as required.

NURSE PRACTITIONER/ PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSGraduate of an accredited college/university NP / PA programMust possess current licenses or certifications in the state of MAExperience in Correctional desired but not requiredMaintains required annual licensure and credentialing requirements for Physician Assistants / Nurse Practitioners in the healthcare unit.
