Rate: £500 - £600 per day (Inside IR35)

Duration: 12 months

Location: Hybrid / Remote 2 Days in the Glasgow office

Security Clearance: SC Clearance (or eligibility) is required for this role.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior VMware Engineer to act as the technical authority and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for an enterprise virtualisation estate. In this role, you will lead the design, implementation, optimisation, and lifecycle management of core VMware platforms, balancing high-availability operational support with strategic modernisation initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

  • Platform Ownership: Design, administer, and optimise core VMware infrastructure platforms, including vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, and VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF).

  • Engineering & Delivery: Lead infrastructure upgrades, platform transformations, hardware refreshes, and complex migration programmes.

  • Complex Problem Solving: Provide 3rd and 4th line operational support, conducting root cause analysis and implementing long-term stability improvements.

  • Automation & Scripting: Develop and maintain automation solutions using PowerShell, PowerCLI, and infrastructure frameworks to boost operational efficiency.

  • Security & Compliance: Drive platform hardening, patching, vulnerability remediation, and certificate management in line with enterprise security standards.

  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with Storage, Network, Security, and Cloud teams to deliver fully integrated, resilient enterprise solutions.


What We Are Looking For

  • Core Experience: Extensive background operating as a Senior VMware or Virtualisation Engineer within a large-scale enterprise environment.

  • Technical Expertise: Deep hands-on experience across VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), vSAN, NSX, Aria, and enterprise server hardware.

  • Automation Skills: Advanced capabilities in PowerShell and PowerCLI scripting for infrastructure automation.

  • Troubleshooting: Strong analytical skills with a proven track record of maintaining business-critical, highly available infrastructure.

  • Desirable: Experience with Terraform/Ansible, and a background working within government, defence, or heavily regulated sectors.
