Job description

OEM Technical Sales Manager, Sensors

Location: Home based, covering the UK with Europe to follow
Salary: £60,000 to £65,000 plus £7,000 car allowance, 10% bonus, pension and 25 days holiday

Please only apply if you have an engineering background and have sold technical components directly to OEMs. Applications without both will not be considered.

The company

My client is an established UK manufacturer of specialist sensors and part of a large global sensor group. They design and build their sensors in the UK, with their own engineering, production and quality teams on site, and they supply OEMs across off-highway, industrial and other equipment markets.

The business is profitable and well established, and the group is investing in people, automation and a much wider sensor range to grow the UK operation. This role is a key part of that growth.

The role

This is a hands-on, field-based technical sales role, working with OEM engineering, purchasing and planning teams to get sensors designed into new and existing equipment and taken through to production supply.

Around half the role is developing existing OEM accounts, many of them multi-site, using the wider sensor range to grow the business. The other half is winning new OEM customers, both in the sectors they already supply and in new markets.

Responsibilities include:

  • Building and managing a pipeline of OEM projects, from first enquiry through design-in to production
  • Working closely with the in-house engineering team on custom and application-specific sensor solutions
  • Quoting, pricing and negotiating with OEM purchasing teams
  • Sales forecasting and reporting against budget
  • Attending trade shows and customer technical days
  • Spotting new applications, technologies and market trends

You ll report into the UK business lead and spend most of your week out with customers rather than behind a desk.

About you

  • An engineering qualification or background, ideally electrical, electronic, mechanical or instrumentation
  • At least 5 years of technical sales experience, selling components directly to OEMs
  • A track record of winning new OEM business yourself, not just managing existing accounts
  • Experience of the design-in process, working with OEM design engineers and purchasing teams
  • Sensors, instrumentation or off-highway experience is a real advantage
  • Happy to travel up to 80% to customers across the UK, and into Europe as the role develops
  • A full UK driving licence
