Job Description

ServiceNow Client Software Distribution (CSD) Developer - Location: Beachwood , OH - 44122 / Moon Township, PA 15108( Remote) Rate : All-inclusive on C2C/1099

Role Summary

The ServiceNow CSD Developer is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting Client Software Distribution (CSD / CSD 2.0) capabilities on the ServiceNow platform. This role focuses on automating end-to-end software deployment and removal across Windows, macOS, and Linux endpoints. You will integrate ServiceNow with endpoint management tools (MECM/SCCM, Intune, Jamf, Tanium) to enable license-aware, catalog-driven software automation, ensuring reliable deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and automated reclamation workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Distribution Workflow Design & Configuration

Configure and maintain CSD / CSD 2.0 capabilities to automate software packaging, scheduling, deployment, and removal for Windows, macOS, and Linux endpoints via Service Catalog requests.

Build and enhance catalog items, request workflows/flows, lease and expiration rules, approval policies, and entitlement checks for desktop and mobile software.

Build and manage the "Distributable" software catalog with proper approval gates and entitlement verification workflows.

Endpoint Management Integration

Integrate CSD with MECM/SCCM, Microsoft Intune, Jamf, Tanium, or native ServiceNow agents using IntegrationHub, Service Graph connectors, MID Server, and REST/SOAP APIs to enable unified software deployment.

Configure and support integrations with external deployment tools, ensuring reliable communication between ServiceNow and endpoint management infrastructure.

Implement CSD 2.0 reference architectures with Intune and Jamf, including standard flows and actions delivered by ServiceNow or Store apps.

Deployment Automation & Orchestration

Create software packages and deployment sequences with pre-install checks, user notifications, post-install verification, and automated retry or rollback logic for failed installations.

Design deployment automation workflows that handle dependencies, pre-requisites, and sequential installation requirements.

Build workflows that link Service Catalog requests directly to software deployment tools, enabling request-to-deployment automation.

Automated Reclamation

Design "zero-touch" reclamation workflows where unused software is automatically uninstalled via CSD based on usage metering or inactivity triggers, returning licenses to the available pool.

Implement lease and expiration logic that automatically removes software after a defined period or based on usage patterns.

Monitoring, Troubleshooting & Remediation

Monitor deployment success/failure rates across the device fleet and provide real-time dashboards on software delivery, version compliance, and deployment coverage.

Troubleshoot failed installations, CSD workflows, and integration issues. Build automated retry or rollback logic to improve deployment reliability.

Work closely with endpoint management, desktop engineering, ITSM, security, and IT operations teams to resolve defects and improve deployment processes.

Technical Development

Develop and maintain technical components including Flow Designer flows/subflows, IntegrationHub actions, Orchestration activities, Business Rules, Script Includes, Client Scripts, and UI Policies that support CSD processes and deployment automation.

Ensure that software deployments and removals executed via CSD accurately update CMDB data (installations, CI relationships) per CSDM standards.

Integrate CSD with related processes: ITSM (Incident, Change, Request), CMDB/CSDM, SAM Pro (for license verification), and Discovery (for installation confirmation).

Reporting & Metrics

Create dashboards and reports showing deployment status, success/failure rates, version compliance, deployment coverage, time-to-deploy metrics, and reclamation effectiveness.

Provide operational metrics on CSD performance to support continuous improvement efforts.

Documentation & Collaboration

Produce technical documentation (designs, configuration guides, runbooks, data flows, integration architectures) for CSD workflows, packages, and integrations.

Provide knowledge transfer or mentoring to internal teams on CSD, catalog orchestration, and endpoint integration best practices.

Collaborate with endpoint engineering, ITAM, ITSM, security, and IT operations teams to align deployment processes with organizational standards.

Required Skills and Experience

ServiceNow Development Expertise: 8+years of hands-on ServiceNow development experience with strong proficiency in JavaScript/GlideScript, Business Rules, Script Includes, Flow Designer, Orchestration, Integration Hub, and Catalog/Request workflows.

CSD Experience: Demonstrated hands-on implementation of Client Software Distribution (CSD or CSD 2.0) including package creation, scheduling, agent management, workflow integration, and troubleshooting deployment failures.

Integration Skills: Proven ability to integrate ServiceNow with external systems via REST/SOAP APIs, MID Server, and IntegrationHub spokes especially MECM/SCCM, Intune, Jamf, or equivalent endpoint management tools.

Endpoint Management Knowledge: Familiarity with the backend of deployment tools (e.g., SCCM Collections, Intune App Packaging, Jamf policies, device targeting, and deployment mechanisms).

Scripting Skills: Advanced JavaScript/GlideScript skills and familiarity with PowerShell or Bash for deployment scripts and automation.

Platform Architecture: Familiarity with ServiceNow platform architecture and related applications: ITSM, CMDB/CSDM, Service Catalog, and their relationships with CSD and deployment data.

Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to debug deployment failures at scale and implement automated remediation logic.

Collaboration & Communication: Good communication and collaboration skills for working with endpoint management, desktop engineering, ITSM, security, and IT operations teams.

Preferred Qualifications

Certifications:

ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA)

ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist IT Asset Management (CIS-ITAM) and/or CIS-ITSM

Endpoint Management certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate, Jamf Certified Tech, SCCM/MECM certifications)

Advanced CSD Implementation: Experience implementing CSD 2.0 reference architectures with Intune and Jamf, including standard flows and actions delivered by ServiceNow or Store apps.

Endpoint Engineering Background: Prior experience in endpoint management, desktop engineering, or software deployment in a medium-to-large enterprise environment.

Process Improvement Mindset: A demonstrated drive to eliminate manual deployment tasks through automation and closed-loop workflows.

Key Competencies

Detail-Oriented: Ability to debug why a package fails on hundreds of devices and fix it at scale.

Automation-Focused: Drive to eliminate manual deployment tasks through intelligent orchestration and workflow automation.

Collaborative: Work effectively across IT operations, security, desktop engineering, and ITAM teams to deliver reliable software deployment solutions.
