Azure Infrastructure Engineer

The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer on a permanent basis to join a well-established organisation based near Salisbury. This role offers hybrid working. You will be joining the Architecture and Engineering team who focused on supporting and enhancing a complex on-premises infrastructure estate while also contributing to the organisation's ongoing cloud transformation journey.

As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the performance, reliability, security and availability of critical IT infrastructure environments. Working closely with operational teams, developers and project stakeholders, you will help deliver and maintain robust infrastructure solutions that support business objectives and future growth.
The RoleYou will be responsible for managing and optimising core infrastructure services including Active Directory, Azure AD, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP. Alongside maintaining Windows Server environments across physical and virtual platforms, you will oversee storage technologies including NAS and SAN solutions.

The role will involve working closely with security teams to ensure infrastructure remains secure, compliant and resilient through effective patch management, system hardening, vulnerability remediation and threat protection measures. You will also support backup, replication and disaster recovery processes, ensuring business continuity requirements are met.

As part of the organisation's cloud strategy, you will assist with the migration of workloads from on-premises environments into Microsoft Azure. You will collaborate with a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders, helping to deliver infrastructure projects on time and to a high standard.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrable experience within an IT Operations or Infrastructure Engineering environment, with strong expertise across Microsoft technologies and enterprise infrastructure platforms.
You will possess extensive knowledge of Windows Server environments, Active Directory, Azure AD, ADFS and Hyper-V virtualisation. Experience of HPE server technologies, enterprise storage platforms, backup and disaster recovery solutions, SCCM and SCVMM is essential. Strong Scripting and automation skills using PowerShell are also required.

You will have a solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including Firewalls and load balancers, together with experience of monitoring and alerting tools such as SolarWinds. Knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and Microsoft 365 services will be important, as will previous experience working within ITIL aligned service management environments. Excellent problem-solving, analytical and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a wider technical team.

Desirable Experience

Professional certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104), Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate (AZ-802) or Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MESA) would be advantageous.Experience with Cisco networking and Firewall technologies, together with knowledge of MOD SCIDA environments, would also be beneficial.

What's Needed

Candidates must be eligible to undergo BPSS and SC security clearance, with existing SC clearance considered highly advantageous. A full UK driving licence would also be desirable due to occasional travel requirements.
