VMware Virtualisation Engineer - VCF/NSX/vSAN/Terraform

+ Long term contract

+ £600 to £675 per day - Inside IR35

+ Working hybrid from Corsham

We are seeking an experienced VMware Virtualisation Engineer to support a major infrastructure programme, designing, building, configuring and automating VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and Software-Defined Data Centre (SDDC) platforms within secure environments.

The role covers the full infrastructure life cycle, including platform deployment, automation, integration, upgrades, testing and operational handover.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, configure and maintain VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) platforms.

• Implement and support VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, NSX, vSAN, VCF Operations, VPC and VKS.

• Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automated deployments using Terraform, PowerCLI, Ansible or SaltStack.

• Build API-driven automation for provisioning, configuration and life cycle management.

• Manage VMware platform upgrades, patching, scaling and performance.

• Integrate virtualisation infrastructure with networking, DNS, identity services and CI/CD pipelines.

• Implement security hardening and secure-by-design standards.

• Produce Low-Level Designs (LLDs), build documentation, technical guides and operational runbooks.

• Support infrastructure integration, testing, troubleshooting and service transition.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on VMware virtualisation experience: vSphere, ESXi and vCenter.

• VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and SDDC experience.

• Practical knowledge of NSX, vSAN and VCF Operations.

• Infrastructure automation using Terraform, PowerCLI, Ansible or SaltStack.

• Infrastructure as Code (IaC), API integration and automated provisioning.

• Enterprise networking, DNS and load balancing.

• DevOps, CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure integration.

• Security hardening and experience working in secure or regulated environments.

• Technical documentation, LLDs and build guides.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

• Must hold or be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC).

Desirable Skills

• VMware Kubernetes Service (VKS), Kubernetes and container platforms.

• Hybrid cloud and multi-platform infrastructure.

• GitOps and IaC best practices.

• Backup, disaster recovery and high availability.

• Agile delivery and Atlassian tools.

• VMware certifications: VCP, VCAP or VCF Specialist.
