Job Summary

FDOT is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to design, implement, secure, and support enterprise network infrastructure. This role emphasizes firewall administration, network security, VPNs, cloud networking, incident resolution, and NIST-aligned security practices. The engineer will support technology integration and modernization projects while providing technical guidance to IT teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Configure and administer Palo Alto and Check Point firewalls and GlobalProtect VPNs, including access rules, security policies, deployments, and rule migrations.
• Design and support LAN/WAN, routing and switching, wireless networks, internet connectivity, cloud connectivity, and data center infrastructure.
• Develop secure network architectures and segmentation strategies to protect critical systems and limit lateral movement.
• Configure cloud network security controls and monitor network traffic, logs, alerts, and performance.
• Investigate and resolve complex network and security incidents using packet analysis, monitoring tools, and root-cause analysis.
• Conduct security risk assessments, identify vulnerabilities, and coordinate remediation.
• Develop and maintain NIST-aligned security policies, configuration standards, and operational procedures.
• Maintain network diagrams, IP addressing plans, VLAN documentation, firewall rules, access controls, and disaster recovery requirements.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and lead technical assessments and proof-of-concept activities.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity, application, database, cloud, and infrastructure teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Prepare security metrics, dashboards, risk reports, and recommendations for management.
• Provide technical leadership and mentor junior network and security staff.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Typically 5 10 years of combined IT and security experience, with broad exposure to enterprise technology environments.
• 3 5 years of experience with information security tools based on NIST standards.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of enterprise networking, routing and switching, firewalls, VPNs, network segmentation, and cloud networking.
• Experience with security monitoring, incident response, vulnerability management, authentication, access controls, and disaster recovery.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex network and security issues and deliver secure, resilient infrastructure solutions.
• Experience using diagramming tools to document infrastructure layouts.
• Strong communication, documentation, problem-solving, customer service, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Palo Alto or Check Point next-generation firewalls.
