Mainframe Engineer

Our client seeks a Mainframe Engineer responsible for designing, developing, testing, configuring, contingency planning, and providing technical support for mainframe technology. The role manages product lifecycles to assure operational availability, gathers data, and analyzes capacity and performance. The engineer will act as a mainframe SME, establish and publish language and development tool roadmaps, coordinate cross-department mainframe application migrations, and support agile delivery while modeling software development best practices.

Rate: $65.00 to $75.00/hr. w2
Responsibilities:

• Serve as mainframe subject matter expert.
• Participate in infrastructure planning and provide insight into future technology directions.
• Maintain thorough understanding of current and future infrastructure.
• Establish, document, and publish mainframe language and development tool directions and roadmaps.
• Coordinate cross-department projects involving mainframe application migrations.
• Demonstrate broad technical knowledge across multiple technologies or deep expertise in one technology and its impacts.
• Maintain awareness of industry developments and quickly apply new concepts.
• Build productive networks with internal and external customers, vendors, and industry peers.
• Ensure proper documentation of complex technical systems for effective operational handover.
• Lead implementation efforts, analyze vendor proposals, evaluate build versus buy, plan projects, establish critical paths, coordinate vendors, build and conduct tests, and track progress.
• Design and implement new features while improving product and application quality.
• Create and execute long-term vision of technical products and applications.
• Act as a technical expert and developer on an agile squad and participate in agile ceremonies.
• Drive architecture of solutions across multiple services and applications.
• Develop software that meets code quality standards and metrics and practice test-driven development.
• Guide communities of practice by mentoring developers, creating and enforcing standards, reviewing code, and sharing knowledge.
• Achieve operational excellence by automating processes and writing maintainable, supportable, and testable code.
• Partner with operations and engineering teams to drive service improvement.
• Remain current on IT trends for the practice area and assist with problem resolution for end users and customers.
• Create and update operations procedures for routine management processes and maintain controls and documentation for audit compliance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience Requirements:

• 10+ years of experience with AmTrust accounting system.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or comparable experience with 20+ years of experience.
• Expert knowledge of mainframe operating systems and hardware.
• Strong knowledge of TSO and mainframe technology.
• Experience with COBOL, CICS, SAS, and MQ.
• Background in Wealth and Asset Management.
• Knowledge of functional software design and development best practices.
• Experience with Git and GitHub.
• Understanding of software development methodologies.
• Strong problem solving and collaboration skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or comparable experience.
