Job description

Morson Edge are recruiting for a Manufacturing Engineer to join one of our leading Aerospace clients at their Filton site, providing industrial engineering support to the UK Structures Test community.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of aerospace research, development and structural testing, supporting the manufacture and delivery of specialist composite and metallic test specimens.

Working closely with Structural Engineering, Test Engineering and external suppliers, you will help ensure that test specimens are manufactured to the required specifications, quality standards and timescales, while remaining representative of serial production aircraft components.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the manufacture and delivery of composite and metallic test specimens for structural testing.

  • Work closely with Structural Engineering to define manufacturing requirements and develop suitable test specimen designs.

  • Review test requests and technical documentation to establish manufacturing requirements, costs and delivery schedules.

  • Provide manufacturing engineering input and approval at key project milestones, including PDR and CDR.

  • Manage external suppliers, ensuring manufacturing quality, technical compliance and on-time delivery.

  • Source materials, components and specialist manufacturing processes as required.

  • Monitor manufacturing budgets, provide cost estimates and manage any variations in expenditure.

  • Review and approve 2D drawings, 3D models and associated quality documentation.

  • Support the industrial integration of test specimens at AIRTeC and external test facilities.

  • Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce costs and encourage sustainable material reuse.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for an experienced Manufacturing or Design Engineer with a background in aerospace or a similar highly regulated engineering environment.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Experience of composite manufacturing techniques, including RTM and resin infusion.

  • Knowledge of metallic and composite manufacturing processes.

  • Experience working with suppliers and managing outsourced manufacturing activities.

  • A good understanding of aerospace manufacturing and assembly processes.

  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings and 3D models.

  • Strong project planning, scheduling and cost management skills.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineering teams and external manufacturers.

  • A strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering quality right first time.

Experience with CATIA, 3DX and aerospace procurement systems would be advantageous.

Experience within aerospace R&D, structural testing or manufacturing integration would also be highly beneficial.
