The job description below outlines the position of Electrical Installation Engineer.
Typically, this person will be responsible for the installation, commissioning and testing of generator systems, UPS systems and associated electrical infrastructure at customer sites.
Working as part of the Projects Team, the role will involve installing diesel generators, UPS systems and automated control switchgear across a range of critical industries, including utilities, healthcare and law enforcement.
This is a hands-on electrical installation position, with the successful candidate expected to work across customer sites and provide technical support throughout installation and commissioning activities. Product and system-specific training will be provided to candidates who demonstrate the right electrical background and willingness to develop within the critical power sector.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Electrical Installation Engineer

• Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and installation documentation.
• Install, terminate and commission electrical systems associated with critical power equipment.
• Install diesel generators, UPS systems and associated automated control switchgear.
• Carry out cable routing, containment works, cable termination and panel wiring.
• Ensure all installations comply with relevant electrical and mechanical regulations, manufacturer requirements and industry standards.
• Work closely with Project Managers, clients and Design Engineers to ensure compliant and integrated project delivery.
• Produce accurate installation reports, commissioning records, test results and compliance documentation.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical and control-system faults during installation, commissioning and operational phases.
• Carry out electrical inspection, testing, validation and fault-finding activities.
• Maintain high standards of health and safety, operational efficiency and quality across all technical activities.
• Provide basic technical and operational training to customers, engineers and colleagues.
• Mentor apprentices and junior engineers, providing technical guidance and supervised practical support.
• Maintain tools, test equipment and company vehicles in accordance with company standards.
• Support the Projects, Design, Service and Sales Teams with technical input on electrical system integration and design validation.
• Carry out site surveys, statutory inspections and system validation where required.
• Work flexibly outside standard hours where required to meet operational requirements and business needs.

Qualifications and Requirements for the Electrical Installation Engineer

• Right to work in the UK.
• NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent, preferably gained through an apprenticeship.
• BS7671 - 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
• ECS Gold Card, or actively working towards obtaining one.
• Previous electrical installation experience within a commercial, industrial or power-generation environment.
• Inspection & Testing qualification, such as City & Guilds 2391.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in electrical inspection and testing.
• Full UK driving licence, ideally clean.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical documentation.
• Strong understanding of electrical installation practices, regulations and safety requirements.
• Good fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Willingness to develop technical knowledge within the critical power sector.

Desirable Experience

• Qualified Supervisor (QS) experience.
• Experience working within NICEIC compliance environments.
• Previous experience supervising competent electrical engineers.
• Experience carrying out site surveys and statutory inspections.
• Experience with electrical fault diagnostics and system repairs.
• Experience working with diesel generators, UPS systems or critical power equipment.
• Knowledge of automated control systems and switchgear.
• Experience carrying out validation testing on electrical installations.
• Experience providing operator or customer training.
• Previous experience within utilities, healthcare, law enforcement or other critical infrastructure environments.
• Experience within power generation, industrial electrical installation or similar technical environments.
