Job Description

Role Summary
This Systems Integration Engineer serves as a subject matter expert supporting telecommunications systems within the National Airspace System (NAS). The role involves providing technical mentorship to field teams while executing hands-on tasks related to the physical and logical integration of fiber and IP-based circuits. The focus is on transitioning legacy copper (TDM) systems to modern fiber and IP networks, ensuring reliable and resilient infrastructure across multiple locations in the Kansas City, MO area.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, integration, and testing of telecommunications systems supporting the NAS.
  • Convert architectural drawings into functional IP network solutions, providing technical guidance throughout the process.
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of network projects, including planning, deployment, and troubleshooting of TDM-to-IP migrations.
  • Assess requirement documents and recommend necessary design modifications; communicate updates to engineering teams.
  • Work directly with network protocols, hardware, and servers to resolve complex technical issues during multi-state deployments.
  • Monitor network performance using dashboards and KPIs, verifying that fiber installations meet reliability standards.
  • Analyze operational data to identify trends and optimize network performance and capacity.
  • Prepare and deliver clear status updates, dashboards, and briefings to stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Support and guide the field team in integration tasks while maintaining hands-on involvement.
  • Travel within the region to support multiple locations, with expenses reimbursed; operate as a “home base” in Kansas City, MO.

Qualifications

  • This position requires eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance. In accordance with federal law, U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or 8+ years of relevant experience in lieu of degree).
  • 8+ years of experience in telecommunications network engineering, circuit integration, or infrastructure planning.
  • Deep technical knowledge of BGP, TCP/IP, MPLS, and IPv6, especially in TDM-to-IP conversion.
  • Hands-on experience with fiber optic networking, hardware deployment, testing, and validation.
  • Proven ability to model network growth and optimize capacity during large-scale upgrades.
  • Experience with ground networks, air-to-ground systems, and related technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex network issues.
  • Effective communicator with experience providing technical updates and stakeholder briefings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading large-scale infrastructure projects with project management methodologies.
  • Knowledge of cloud networking platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Relevant certifications: Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+, CCIE, AWS Solutions Architect, INCOSE ASEP, PMP.
  • Familiarity with FAA BNATCS protocols or similar mission-critical standards.

Publishing Pay Range: $74.00 - $79.00 hourly

This position is based in office and requires employee to work on-site.
