Full Stack Software EngineerIf you're looking to join a pre-seed startup at the ground floor and help shape both the product and the engineering culture from scratch, and you're comfortable with the risk-and-reward trade-off that comes with that, this could be the right opportunity for you.About the Role We are seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer to help build the adjst.ai platform from an early stage. This position offers a distinctive opportunity to work across the full stack, from React/TypeScript interfaces through to a TypeScript/Node.js back end, with real influence over technical decisions and engineering standards as one of the company's earliest engineering hires. This is a pre-seed company: it's not a guaranteed path, but when we succeed, the upside is significant. This role won't suit a typical career developer looking for a safe, well-trodden path.
Key Responsibilities:

• Designing, building, and shipping features across the full stack, from database to UI.
• Working closely with the founding team to translate product requirements into robust, scalable systems.
• Building and maintaining APIs and services in TypeScript using Node.js and Next.js, backed by PostgreSQL, with attention to query performance and tuning.
• Building responsive, accessible interfaces in React and TypeScript, using the team's front-end toolkit (Vite, turborepo, pnpm, Radix, ShadCN, Tailwind, Zustand, Tanstack Router, Tanstack Query).
• Contributing to the mobile experience using React Native and Expo, sharing patterns and tooling with the web codebase where sensible.
• Using AI coding tools as part of your workflow: critically reviewing, testing, and taking ownership of AI-generated code rather than accepting it uncritically.
• Participating in code review, architectural discussions, and establishing engineering practices and standards as an early hire.
• Helping build a culture of strong engineering discipline (clean code, sound OOP design, and a proper test pyramid) in a company operating in a regulated, data-sensitive industry (motor insurance).

Skills and ExperienceEssential

• Strong engineering fundamentals: SOLID, DRY, Law of Demeter, and the reasoning behind them, not just the acronyms.
• Good architectural vocabulary and understanding: able to discuss trade-offs, not just name patterns.
• Solid grounding in design patterns and practices, and a clear sense of what makes code genuinely clean and maintainable.
• Strong OOP design and development skills.
• Understanding of the test pyramid and how to apply it practically.
• Exposure to delivering at scale: not necessarily concurrent users, but real transactional data volume and processing.
• Hands-on experience with TypeScript and React; comfortable picking up an opinionated modern toolkit even where specific tools (Zustand, Tanstack Query/Router, Radix, ShadCN) haven't been used directly before.
• Hands-on experience with Node.js and Next.js, including API routes/server actions and server-side rendering.
• Solid PostgreSQL skills; experience demonstrating query tuning is a bonus.
• Knows how to use AI coding tools properly. Able to explain what a genuine review process for AI-generated code looks like, not "vibe coding" without review or understanding.
• An entrepreneurial mindset: someone who understands and accepts the trade-off between a pre-seed company's risk and its potential reward.

Desirable Experience:

• React Native and Expo.
• Experience with monorepo tooling (turborepo, pnpm workspaces, or equivalent).
• Experience in insurance, fintech, or another regulated/compliance-sensitive industry.
• Side projects, open-source contributions, or prior startup/founder experience.
• Some exposure to C#/.NET is a bonus (not required) as the team may occasionally use it for specific future services, though it is not part of the core stack.
