Role Overview:
MacTaggart Scott are looking to recruit a Master Project Scheduler to work with their Project Management Department. The Master Scheduler plays a key role in providing a clear, integrated view of the business’s project portfolio, bringing together project schedules, milestones, dependencies and resource requirements.
Working closely with Project Managers, Project Planners, the PMO and Bids team, you’ll identify conflicts, assess the impact of changing priorities and support effective project and resource planning. You’ll also own the site Rough-Cut Capacity Plan (RCCP) and DOP Load, providing forward-looking insight into demand, capacity and potential delivery constraints.
As a senior planning role, you’ll help shape planning decisions across the business while providing guidance, support and cover to Project Planners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and maintain the Master Project Schedule, providing a single, integrated view of live, planned and potential projects across the business.
- Manage the Site Rough-Cut Capacity Plan (RCCP), identifying capacity constraints, resource pressures and potential conflicts across projects and functions.
- Lead cross-project schedule coordination, identifying dependencies, clashes, risks and the wider impact of changes to project priorities and delivery dates.
- Provide senior planning support for bids and tenders, reviewing schedules, challenging assumptions and assessing proposed delivery dates against existing commitments and capacity.
- Support project and business decision-making by providing clear forward-looking insight into milestones, workload, capacity, schedule risks and resource requirements.
- Monitor schedule performance and risk, including critical paths, key variances, float erosion and potential impacts to wider project commitments.
- Ensure high-quality, consistent planning data, maintaining scheduling standards, templates, tools and ERP/DOP information that underpin effective capacity and project planning.
- Prepare and present planning information for PMO, Project, Senior Management and Board reviews.
- Work collaboratively across Business, Projects and Operations, facilitating planning reviews and ensuring alignment on priorities, assumptions, dependencies and delivery plans.
- Drive continuous improvement within the planning function, improving processes, reporting and tools while supporting and developing junior planners.
- Customer Interface, support Project Managers in customer meetings where project dates and delivery plans are being discussed, providing schedule information and assess the effect of changes being requested by the customer.
- Working with others, working with Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Operations and other teams involved in project delivery. This role is a senior stakeholder and work in conjunction with the PMO Manager.
- Continuous Improvement, working to improve how project schedules and the RCCP are maintained and utilized.
Essential/Required
- Proven experience of developing and maintaining schedules for multiple engineering projects, including activities, dependencies, milestones, critical path and delivery dates.
- Practical experience of maintaining RCCP or capacity plans, converting project workload into resource demand and comparing this against available site capacity.
- Experience of developing project schedules for bids and tenders and assessing whether proposed delivery dates are achievable.
- Strong working knowledge of project scheduling software, including schedule logic, baselines, constraints and progress updates.
- Strong Excel skills for analysing project, workload and capacity data.
- Ability to identify schedule conflicts, resource constraints and the impact of changes across multiple projects.
- Experience of scheduling through an engineering project lifecycle, including design, procurement, manufacture, assembly, test and delivery.
- Ability to review and challenge project schedules, durations, resource requirements and planning assumptions.
- Experience of working directly with Project Managers, Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Operations and Bids.
