REPORTS TO: Head of Finance and Operations

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part Time, Non-Exempt

SCHEDULE: Monday–Friday, 10:45 a.m.–3:15 p.m., approximately 22.5 hours per week.

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD: September - July 30, 2027

COMPENSATION: Hourly rate to be determined based on whether the role is classified as Assistant I, Associate I, or Associate II, consistent with relevant experience and qualifications.

LOCATION: 11 Jefferson Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11238 (on-site)

BENEFITS ELIGIBILITY: This is a part-time position and is not eligible for BWS's employee benefits programs (e.g., health insurance, retirement plan).

Job Summary

The Early Childhood  Extended Day Support role begins by covering Early Childhood staff breaks starting at approximately 10:45 AM, then transitions to providing Extended Day support through approximately 3:00 PM.

Responsibilities associated with this role may fluctuate based on the operational needs of the School, and specific duties may shift over time as directed by the Head of Finance and Operations to meet those needs.

Responsibilities

EARLY CHILDHOOD BREAK COVERAGE

  • Provide coverage for Early Childhood teachers' breaks beginning at approximately 10:45 AM.
  • Provide direct supervision and care of Early Childhood students as assigned during break coverage.
  • Support teachers with maintaining a calm, safe, and welcoming classroom environment during transitions.
  • Communicate any significant student, family, or safety concerns to the appropriate school administrator.

EXTENDED DAY SUPPORT

  • Transition to Extended Day program support, continuing through approximately 3:00–3:15 PM.
  • Assist with student transitions, dismissal, and other Extended Day routines and afternoon needs.
  • Provide direct supervision and care of students enrolled in Extended Day.
  • Support Extended Day staff and teachers in maintaining a calm, safe, and welcoming environment.

COLLABORATION & COMMUNICATION

  • Work closely with Early Childhood faculty, Extended Day staff, and the Business & Operations Office.
  • Maintain clear, warm, and professional communication with families.
  • Help ensure information is shared consistently between Early Childhood, Extended Day, and school administration.
  • Participate in relevant meetings or check-ins related to Early Childhood or Extended Day operations as needed.

Requirements

  • Experience working with young children in an Early Childhood, childcare, or school environment preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy school environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with children, families, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Understanding of, or openness to learning about, Waldorf education and pedagogy.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to identify and appropriately escalate student, family, staffing, or safety concerns.
  • Willingness to be classified and compensated at the Assistant I, Associate I, or Associate II level based on experience and qualifications.
