Job DescriptionJoin the GEMS Advisory Board\nGEMS is seeking committed, community-minded leaders to serve on our Advisory Board and help strengthen our impact, visibility, partnerships, fundraising, and long-term sustainability.\nGEMS is a fiscally sponsored project of Charm City Impact, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Through this relationship, Charm City Impact provides nonprofit infrastructure, financial administration, compliance support, and other organizational resources that allow GEMS to focus on advancing its mission and serving the community.\n\nGirls Excelling in Math and Science (GEMS) is dedicated to empowering girls through engaging opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). GEMS helps girls build confidence, strengthen academic and leadership skills, explore STEM careers, and see themselves as future innovators and leaders.

Through hands-on learning, mentorship, and exposure to new opportunities, GEMS works to expand access and help girls realize their full potential.\n\nAbout the Advisory Board\nThe GEMS Advisory Board is a working advisory body that provides strategic guidance, community connections, fundraising support, and advocacy.\nBecause GEMS operates as a fiscally sponsored project, the Advisory Board is not the legal governing board of the 501(c)(3) and does not carry the fiduciary authority of Charm City Impact’s Board of Directors.

Advisory Board members instead serve as trusted advisors, ambassadors, and champions for GEMS.\n\nWhat We Are Looking For\nWe are seeking individuals who believe in the GEMS mission and can bring meaningful experience, relationships, resources, or community connections to the organization.

Areas of particular interest include:\n• Fundraising and philanthropy\n• Corporate and community partnerships\n• Education and youth development\n• Nonprofit leadership\n• Marketing and communications\n• Finance and business development\n• Community engagement\n• Government and public service\n• Events and sponsorship development\n• Strategic planning and organizational growth\nProfessional expertise is valuable, but equally important is a willingness to show up, participate, make connections, and help move the work forward.\nAdvisory Board Member Responsibilities\nMembers are expected to:\n• Attend and actively participate in Advisory Board meetings\n• Provide strategic advice and constructive feedback to GEMS leadership\n• Serve as an ambassador for GEMS within personal and professional networks\n• Identify and facilitate introductions to donors, sponsors, partners, and community stakeholders\n• Support fundraising campaigns, events, and donor engagement\n• Help increase the visibility and reach of GEMS\n• Participate in committees or special initiatives as appropriate\n• Identify resources and opportunities that advance the GEMS mission\n• Maintain confidentiality when receiving sensitive organizational information\n• Fulfill the annual $1,000 Give/Get commitment\n$1,000 Annual Give/Get Commitment\nEvery GEMS Advisory Board member is expected to personally give and/or raise a minimum of $1,000 annually in support of GEMS.\n\nThe commitment may be fulfilled through a personal charitable contribution, donations secured through the member’s network, corporate sponsorships, fundraising activities, or a combination of giving and fundraising.\nFor example, a member could personally contribute $250 and raise $750, personally contribute the full $1,000, or raise the entire $1,000 through their network.\nThe Give/Get policy ensures that every Advisory Board member plays an active role in supporting the financial sustainability and growth of GEMS.\n\nCommitment to Active Service\nGEMS is building an engaged, working Advisory Board.

Members should be prepared to contribute their time, talent, network, and resources rather than serving in name only.\nSuccessful members will proactively make introductions, identify opportunities, participate in fundraising, provide thoughtful guidance, and help expand GEMS’s community presence.\n\nFiscal Sponsorship\nGEMS operates as a fiscally sponsored project of Charm City Impact, Inc.

Charm City Impact serves as the nonprofit fiscal sponsor and provides the legal and administrative infrastructure through which eligible charitable activities and fundraising are conducted.\nThe GEMS Advisory Board provides guidance and support to the project but does not replace or exercise the legal governance responsibilities of the Charm City Impact Board of Directors.\n\nWho Should Apply\nWe encourage individuals who believe in the GEMS mission, are comfortable supporting fundraising, can meet the $1,000 annual Give/Get commitment, and are ready to actively use their expertise and relationships to help the project grow.\n\nInterested in Joining GEMS?\nIf you are ready to contribute your leadership, expertise, relationships, and resources to help GEMS reach its next stage of growth, we encourage you to apply.
