Multi-skilled Enginner - nights (Sunday to Thursday)
Are you an experienced Multi-skilled Engineer who thrives on working independently and solving problems when it matters most? Are you looking for a role where you can take ownership of engineering performance throughout the night shift?
Valeo Foods, a manufacturer of some of the UK’s best-loved snacks and confectionery, is looking for a Night Shift Multi-skilled Engineer to join our team.
Working as a key member of the night shift, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our production operation running safely and efficiently. You’ll be the go-to engineering support overnight, responding to breakdowns, carrying out planned and corrective maintenance, supporting production and identifying opportunities to improve machine reliability and reduce downtime.
What you'll be doing:
- Take ownership of engineering support throughout the night shift, responding quickly to electrical and mechanical breakdowns and minimising production downtime.
- Carry out reactive repairs, PPM and corrective maintenance across the site.
- Support Production with machinery adjustments, changeovers, set-up and technical fault-finding.
- Identify recurring issues and drive improvements in machine reliability, performance and downtime.
- Accurately record breakdowns, maintenance activities and parts usage through the CMMS system.
- Prioritise engineering work based on production and business requirements.
- Carry out root cause analysis and support FMECA and Continuous Improvement activities.
- Support external contractors and Capital Projects where required.
- Maintain high standards of Health & Safety, housekeeping and engineering documentation.
- Provide clear and effective handovers to the incoming engineering team, highlighting outstanding issues and follow-up actions.
Knowledge / Skills / Experience
- Relevant engineering qualification, minimum Level 3.
- Proven experience as a multi-skilled engineer within an FMCG/manufacturing environment.
- Competent in all forms of isolation, electrical safety and safe panel entry.
- Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills.
- Experience working autonomously and making effective engineering decisions with minimal supervision.
- PC literate, with the ability to confidently use computer-based maintenance/CMMS systems.
- Ability to prioritise effectively and remain calm under pressure during production breakdowns.
- Flexible approach to working hours and shift requirements.
- Strong commitment to Health & Safety.
You will be:
- Self-motivated and confident working independently, particularly when dealing with breakdowns and engineering challenges overnight.
- A practical, "out of the box" thinker who isn't afraid to share a "light bulb" moment.
- Calm and methodical when working under pressure.
- Production-focused, with a strong understanding of the impact engineering downtime can have on the wider business.
- A strong communicator who can provide clear updates and effective shift handovers.
- Health & Safety driven, with a commitment to doing things the right way every time.
- Willing and able to work as part of a close engineering team while taking ownership of your responsibilities on the night shift.
