About the Role

The Decisions & Insights team empowers teams across Stitch Fix with objective, high-impact insights and intelligent self-service tools that improve how we understand clients and make decisions. Using experimentation, causal inference, advanced analytics, and AI, the team goes beyond understanding what happened to uncover why it happened and what we should do next.

As part of this team, you will partner with teams across Client Experience, Strategy, Marketing, Styling, Client Support, and Engineering to turn complex data into actionable business strategy — with a particular focus on decision science: designing and analyzing experiments and observational studies, applying rigorous causal inference methods, and translating findings into clear, decision-ready recommendations for stakeholders and leadership.

Rather than operating as a passive analytics service desk, you will build deep domain ownership driven by passion and expertise. You will independently own high-impact, often ambiguous causal questions from initial framing through delivery, combining technical depth, business judgment, and strong communication to proactively surface unseen opportunities, predict emerging trends, and influence strategic decisions across the business.

What You'll Do

• Proactive Strategic Discovery: Develop enough domain depth to independently formulate and bring critical business questions to stakeholders, rather than waiting for the business to supply requests. Continuously monitor domain health to proactively identify anomalies, surface growth opportunities, and predict trends before they hit executive dashboards.
• Causal Inference & Advanced Modeling: Develop sophisticated statistical models, experiments, and causal inference approaches — including structural time series (STS), counterfactual modeling, and advanced machine learning models (for prediction, anomaly detection, and pattern recognition) — that uncover the drivers of client and business outcomes.
• End-to-End Initiative Ownership: Own complex, ambiguous causal analysis initiatives from problem definition through execution, measurement, and executive-ready communication. Translate technical findings into clear narratives that define which lever to pull and quantify the expected return.
• Domain Ownership vs. Capacity Creation: Build true end-to-end domain ownership rather than simply mapping analytics resources to departmental silos. Create the operational capacity for high-value proactive work by strategically automating, streamlining, or rehoming routine tasks like basic product tracking/eventing, bot-management support, and Looker maintenance.
• Scalable Capabilities & Architecture: Build scalable analytical capabilities — including semantic layers, entity models, and repeatable workflows — that connect fragmented data and enable predictive modeling, AI applications, and self-service decision-making.
• Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner directly with cross-functional leadership across Client Experience, Strategy, Marketing, Styling, Client Support, and Engineering to frame decision questions, select the appropriate rigor of causal methods, and connect analytical results directly to measurable outcomes.
• Technical Excellence & Mentorship: Advance the team's technical capabilities by mentoring other Data Scientists and leveraging LLMs, AI agents, and emerging tools to accelerate analysis, streamline documentation, and raise the bar for experimentation and modeling and decision-making.

About You

This is what you'll need to succeed in this role from day 1:

• You have 3+ years of experience in a data science role, ideally within the e-commerce or retail industry.
• You hold a Bachelors or Masters degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or Statistics, Analytics, a related quantitative field. 
• Proven capability in product analytics — defining and instrumenting success metrics, analyzing user funnels, and using BI platforms (Looker, Tableau, Metabase, Omni) to build curated models and self-service tools, alongside a track record of automating routine maintenance to focus on high-impact work.
• You have a strong foundation in experimentation, causal inference, and statistical modeling. You comfortably reason about the rigor of a causal claim, define robust success metrics, and link analytical outputs directly to business levers for solving high-stake business problems. 
• You are driven by curiosity and domain mastery. You don't wait for dashboard or ticket requests — you immerse yourself in a core domain (e.g., Inventory, Pricing, or Retention) to independently formulate questions, surface non-obvious risks/opportunities, and propose solutions.
• You are an excellent communicator and stakeholder partner who can distill technical, uncertain, or nuanced causal findings into a clear, decision-ready narrative for business and executive leadership.
• Experience working with complex, interconnected datasets and building scalable data structures or semantic layers (experience with graph databases, entity modeling, or multimodal data is highly valued).
• You actively leverage LLMs and AI agents to accelerate problem-solving, code development, and workflow automation.
• Proficient in Python/R and SQL within collaborative, production-oriented environments.
• An independent problem solver who brings structure to complex problems, owns initiatives end-to-end, and actively raises the technical and strategic bar for those around them.
