Junior Data Scientist with Security Clearance

Essential Functions

• Support the development, training, and evaluation of machine learning and AI models under the direction of the Analytic Lead and senior data scientists.
• Apply NLP techniques to extract and enrich unstructured data.
• Assist in expanding entity extraction by preparing data, testing models, and documenting results.
• Cleanse and prepare structured and unstructured data for model development.
• Build data visualizations that communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, including stand-ups, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.

Competencies

• 2+ years of experience with an analytical or statistical language such as Python, R, or SQL.
• Exposure to machine learning concepts, including model training and evaluation.
• Experience working with structured and unstructured data.
• Familiarity with data visualization tools.
• Ability to work collaboratively in an Agile development environment.

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
• Occasionally moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Expresses or exchanges ideas by means of the spoken word.  Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly or quickly.
• Frequently moves standard office equipment up to 25 pounds.
• Must be able to work indoor conditions 90% of the time.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work Work is conducted at the DEA facilities in Arlington, VA and Merrifield, VA. This is a full-time position with flexible hours based on mission requirements.  Travel Occasional CONUS travel may be required for meetings, conferences, or training. Education Bachelor’s degree in data science or a related quantitative field with coursework or project experience in natural language processing or machine learning. Experience can be considered in lieu of education.

Compensation and Benefits: The expected compensation range for this position is $110,000.00 - $123,000.00 per year (annualized hourly rate of pay).
