Linux Systems Engineer
Position Summary:
We are seeking a Sr. Linux Systems Engineer to support the migration of a Windows-based system to a Linux desktop environment supporting a connected/edge device platform. This engineer will help define and execute the migration path, harden the operating system by securing and locking down system components, and build an automated solution for managing a fleet of edge devices. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys solving platform-level problems and documenting repeatable processes.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with the design, planning, and execution of a migration from a Windows-based to a Linux-based solution, including host OS conversion and application porting. Analyze existing Windows application dependencies, services, and configurations to advise on a comprehensive Linux migration strategy and target architecture. Partner with development, infrastructure, and operations stakeholders to ensure functional parity and system requirements are met throughout the migration.

Identify and resolve compatibility issues, driver conflicts, and platform-specific blockers encountered during the Windows-to-Linux migration process. Ensure the new OS configuration is hardened and set up in a secure fashion for distribution. Design, develop, and document an end-to-end process for fleet management of Linux-based systems (device imaging, security patches, OS upgrades, and package upgrades).

Required Qualifications

10+ years of system design experience or equivalent.
Proven track record of planning and executing full Windows-to-Linux OS and application migrations in production environments with minimal downtime.
Deep expertise in Linux distributions such as Ubuntu or Debian-based systems, including system hardening, package management, and configuration management.
Experience with automated system management, including security patching, access management, and monitoring.
Able to design high-availability solutions with minimal guidance and a high attention to detail.
Proficiency in Linux scripting such as Bash or Python.
BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience deploying and managing Linux-based workloads using cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure. Familiarity with Docker, Podman, or Kubernetes for containerizing migrated workloads. Experience working with cloud-based IoT solutions (e.g., Azure IoT). Ability to design and work with scalable distributed software solutions. POSIX shell scripting experience, such as Dash or KSH. Excellent written communication and technical documentation skills.

Tools & Technologies (not required, but helpful)

GitLab, GitHub, Bitbucket, or equivalent Git-based version control and CI/CD platforms. Copilot, Claude Code, or other AI-assisted tooling.
