RESPONSIBILITIES

Kforce has a client that is seeking an L2 DC Tech in Abernathy, TX.

Summary

The L2 Data Center Technician is responsible for the installation, deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of critical data center infrastructure. This role supports server, storage, networking, power, and cooling systems while ensuring equipment is installed and validated according to technical specifications and operational standards. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in data center environments, strong troubleshooting abilities, and the capability to work independently while mentoring junior technicians.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and support data center infrastructure, including servers, storage systems, networking hardware, and rack components
  • Perform rack-and-stack activities, ensuring proper equipment placement, labeling, and cable management
  • Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot both fiber optic and copper cabling infrastructure
  • Manage and validate rack power distribution systems, including PDUs, dual-feed configurations, and redundancy requirements
  • Support cooling infrastructure deployments, including DX airflow management and direct-to-chip (D2C) liquid cooling systems
  • Execute system deployment activities, including operating system imaging, installation, and hardware provisioning
  • Perform BIOS and firmware configuration, hardware validation, and post-deployment testing
  • Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure installations meet customer and operational standards
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, rack elevations, and Method of Procedure (MOP) documentation
  • Troubleshoot installation and infrastructure issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to L1 technicians
  • Maintain compliance with all safety, security, and operational procedures within the data center environment
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Proven experience in data center deployments, hardware installations, or a similar hands-on technical role
  • Experience running, testing, certifying, and troubleshooting fiber optic cabling
  • Experience with rack-level power distribution, including PDUs, dual power feeds, and redundancy concepts
  • Experience with operating system deployment and imaging tools (PXE, ISO-based installations, or automated deployment platforms)
  • Strong understanding of rack infrastructure, server platforms, storage systems, and networking hardware
  • Working knowledge of data center cooling methodologies, including: DX airflow management within racks; Direct-to-chip (D2C) liquid cooling installation, connection handling, and validation
  • Familiarity with BIOS configuration, firmware updates, and hardware validation procedures
  • Proficiency in structured cabling practices, including fiber optic and copper installations
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Good understanding of health and safety regulations within data center environments
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation, schematics, and MOPs
  • Ability to work independently while leading or supporting junior technicians
  • Ability to perform physically demanding installation work, including lifting equipment and working in confined spaces

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Server+, Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT), or equivalent
  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale data center deployments
  • Exposure to high-density compute environments and advanced cooling technologies
  • Experience with hardware QA/QC and deployment validation processes
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
