Mainframe CICS System Administrator (W2 Role, local to TX only )

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe CICS System Administrator to support, maintain, and optimize enterprise Mainframe CICS environments. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with CICS Transaction Server (CICS TS) administration, performance monitoring, system maintenance, and troubleshooting.

In this role, you will work on complex technical challenges, identify potential system issues, and contribute to modernization initiatives supporting large enterprise environments.

Key Responsibilities

CICS Administration & Maintenance

• Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain CICS Transaction Server (CICS TS) environments.

• Manage CICS regions across Production, Test, Development, and Disaster Recovery (DR) environments.

• Apply PTFs, patches, fixes, and version upgrades.

• Perform regression testing and validation following system upgrades and maintenance.

• Configure and maintain System Initialization Tables (DFHSIT) and CICS startup parameters.

• Troubleshoot CICS region, transaction, and system-level issues.

• Support CICS availability, stability, and disaster recovery activities.

Performance Monitoring & Tuning

• Monitor CICS transaction performance and overall system health.

• Utilize monitoring tools such as OMEGAMON, MainView, and TMON.

• Analyze:

  • Transaction response times

  • CPU utilization

  • Storage utilization

  • CICS region performance

  • Transaction throughput

• Identify performance bottlenecks and implement appropriate tuning solutions.

• Perform root-cause analysis for performance and availability issues.

Production Support

• Provide technical support for critical Mainframe/CICS production environments.

• Participate in incident, problem, and change management processes.

• Investigate and resolve production issues within established SLAs.

• Coordinate with application, infrastructure, database, and operations teams.

• Maintain technical documentation, procedures, and operational standards.

Modernization & Continuous Improvement

• Support Mainframe modernization and CICS transformation initiatives.

• Evaluate opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, and maintainability.

• Assist with migration, upgrade, and technology modernization projects.

• Stay current with CICS and Mainframe technologies and industry best practices.

Required Skills

• Strong hands-on experience administering IBM CICS Transaction Server (CICS TS).

• Experience with CICS region configuration, startup parameters, and DFHSIT.

• Experience with CICS installation, upgrades, maintenance, and PTF application.

• Strong knowledge of CICS performance monitoring and tuning.

• Experience with OMEGAMON, MainView, or TMON.

• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.

• Experience supporting enterprise z/OS Mainframe environments.

• Strong understanding of production support and incident management processes.
