Location: TX - 4 days/week onsite

Duration: 6-12 months

We are seeking a Data Modeler with deep expertise in Oracle database platforms and Erwin data modeling to design, govern, and evolve enterprise data models that support mission-critical business processes. This role is responsible for translating business and analytical requirements into robust conceptual, logical, and physical data models, and for ensuring those models are implemented consistently across our Oracle environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Primary responsibilities of the Data Modeler include designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise grade data models that support critical business initiatives, analytics, and operational systems. The ideal candidate is proficient in industry standard data modeling tools (with hands-on expertise in Erwin Data Modeler) and has deep experience with Oracle and SQL Server databases.
• Collaborate with data architects, DBAs, ETL developers, and stakeholders to gather complex business requirements and translate them into robust, scalable, and normalized data models while ensuring alignment with data governance, performance, and integration standards.
• Design and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models using Erwin Data Modeler, ensuring alignment with business requirements and enterprise data standards.
• Develop and manage Oracle database schemas, including tables, views, indexes, partitioning strategies, and constraints derived from approved data models.
• Partner with business analysts, data architects, application teams, and DBAs to gather requirements and translate them into scalable, normalized (and where appropriate, denormalized/dimensional) data structures.
• Establish and enforce data modeling standards, naming conventions, and metadata management practices across projects.
• Perform reverse engineering of existing Oracle databases into Erwin to document and rationalize legacy data structures.
• Manage model versioning, subject areas, and complex model merges within Erwin's model management/mart environment.
• Ensure data models adhere to normalization standards (3NF), data integrity, and referential integrity.
• Support dimensional modeling (star/snowflake schemas) for data warehousing and analytics use cases.
• Generate, review, and optimize DDL (Data Definition Language) scripts for database objects (tables, views, indexes, constraints, partitions, etc.) to support forward engineering of physical models into DDL for Oracle, and coordinate schema deployment with DBAs and other engineering teams.
• Conduct data model reviews and impact assessments for proposed schema changes, ensuring referential integrity and minimizing downstream disruption.
• Lead data governance and data quality initiatives to maintain a business glossary, data lineage, and metadata repository tied to the models.
• Optimize data structures for performance, scalability, and maintainability within Oracle, working closely with DBAs on indexing and partitioning strategies.
• Support both OLTP and data warehouse/dimensional modeling efforts (star/snowflake schemas) as needed.
• Document data models thoroughly and produce data dictionaries, ER diagrams, and supporting artifacts for technical and business stakeholders.
• Assist in database migrations, schema comparisons, and synchronization between environments (Dev/QA/Prod).
• Follow Oncor?s Data Governance Policy and Information Classification and Protection Policy.
• Participate in design reviews and take guidance from the Data Architecture team members.

Required Qualifications

• 5 or more years of hands-on experience in data modeling, data architecture, or database design roles.
• Expert proficiency with Erwin Data Modeler (version 9.x or higher preferred) ? including subject areas, model templates, DDL generation, forward/reverse engineering, model versioning, and complete compare functionality.
• Advanced SQL skills and deep understanding of Oracle (11g/12c/19c/21c) including SQL, PL/SQL, schema design, and performance tuning fundamentals as they relate to data model design.
• Demonstrated experience building both normalized (3NF) transactional models and dimensional models (star/snowflake) for reporting and analytics.
• Strong command of DDL creating and modifying tables, indexes, constraints, sequences, synonyms, and materialized views.
• Solid understanding of data modeling theory: entity-relationship modeling, normalization/denormalization, cardinality, keys, and referential integrity.
• Solid grasp of database internals: indexing strategies, partitioning, clustering, and query execution plans.
• Experience with data modeling best practices: normalization, denormalization, surrogate keys, and slowly changing dimensions (SCD)
• Experience producing and maintaining data dictionaries, metadata, and data lineage documentation.
• Familiarity with version control (e.g., Git) and model comparison/diff tools.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly explain modeling decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a regulated industry (utilities, financial services, insurance, healthcare) with associated data governance and compliance requirements.
• Familiarity with additional modeling or metadata tools (e.g., ER/Studio, PowerDesigner, Collibra, Alation).
• Exposure to cloud data platforms (e.g., Oracle Cloud, AWS, Azure, Snowflake, Databricks) and hybrid on-prem/cloud modeling scenarios.
• Working knowledge of ETL/ELT tools and data integration patterns.
• Experience supporting master data management (MDM) or data governance initiatives.
• Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server
