Job Description

LSF is seeking a talented IT Security Specialist who wants to make an impact in the lives of others.

Purpose and Impact:

The IT Security Specialist helps protect LSF systems, networks, endpoints, cloud services, users, and data. The position monitors and investigates security events, supports incident response and vulnerability remediation, assists with identity and endpoint security, maintains security documentation, and promotes secure technology practices. The IT Security Specialist works with IT teams, business stakeholders, and vendors to reduce risk while supporting reliable, compliant, and mission-focused operations.

Essential Functions:

  • Monitor, review, and triage security alerts involving endpoints, identities, email, cloud services, networks, and logging platforms.
  • Document, escalate, and track suspected security incidents; assist with investigation, containment, remediation, recovery, and follow-up activities.
  • Support vulnerability scanning, risk prioritization, patch coordination, secure configuration reviews, remediation tracking, and verification.
  • Assist with Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Defender, Intune, Exchange Online, Active Directory, Group Policy, endpoint protection, and related security controls.
  • Review suspicious sign-ins, phishing reports, malware alerts, endpoint detections, access concerns, and potential data exposure events.
  • Support user access reviews, privileged access monitoring, multifactor authentication, least-privilege practices, and secure onboarding and offboarding activities.
  • Maintain incident records, procedures, playbooks, checklists, evidence, risk documentation, audit support materials, and recurring security reports.
  • Support security awareness training, phishing education, user guidance, and practical security communications for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate with IT staff, compliance, leadership, program teams, and vendors on security issues, technology changes, audits, risk reviews, and improvement initiatives.
  • Stay current on relevant cybersecurity threats, Microsoft security capabilities, and industry practices; perform other related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Primarily sedentary work involves prolonged computer use, reading, analysis, documentation, and keyboard and mouse operation, and maintain sufficient visual acuity to read computer screens, technical information, and written materials
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, by video, and electronically.
  • Occasional walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting or carrying items weighing up to 15 pounds may be required.
  • The position is primarily performed in a climate-controlled office or technology environment with routine computer and screen use. The work may involve prolonged concentration and periods of increased work intensity when responding to security incidents or urgent technology issues. Occasional work in other areas of the organization may be required.
  • Occasional statewide travel; reliable transportation and automobile liability insurance are required when business travel applies.

Education:

  • An Associates’ degree in a Computer Science related field is required. A Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred.
  • Relevant certifications are preferred, including CompTIA Security+, Network+, CySA+, Microsoft Security certifications, CISSP Associate, SSCP, GIAC, or comparable training and experience.

Experience:

  • Two to four years of progressively responsible experience in information technology, cybersecurity operations, endpoint support, network administration, systems administration, or security monitoring.
  • Experience reviewing security alerts, documenting investigations, supporting incident response, tracking vulnerabilities, and coordinating remediation.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 security, Entra ID, Defender, Intune, Exchange Online, Windows endpoints, Active Directory, Group Policy, endpoint protection, or related technologies is preferred.
  • Experience with SIEM or logging platforms, vulnerability tools, EDR or antivirus, email and web security, firewalls, IDS/IPS, DLP, encryption, backup, or disaster recovery is preferred.
  • Experience in nonprofit, human services, healthcare, government-funded, or regulated environments is preferred.

Skills:

  • Working knowledge of security monitoring, incident response, vulnerability management, endpoint security, identity and access management, and secure configuration practices.
  • General understanding of Windows systems, Microsoft cloud services, networking, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, VPN, backup, and disaster recovery concepts.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, critical-thinking, prioritization, and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain accurate tickets, investigation notes, procedures, evidence, risk records, and status updates.
  • Clear oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain security risks and recommended actions to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to protect confidential and sensitive information, exercise sound judgment, follow established procedures, and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, collaborate effectively, and support LSF’s mission, values, policies, and service standards.

Other:

Must demonstrate sensitivity to our service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and needs.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Reports to Systems Security Administrator
  • Team player with co-workers and Central Services office staff.
  • Adherence to Agency policies and management practices.
