Job Description

An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Housing & Compliance Officer to join the housing team at one of Adecco's most improved housing clients in a permanent role, paying 34,000 per annum. This is a full time role for 35 hours each week (Monday to Friday, 9am- 5pm)

Reporting directly into the Senior Housing Officer on a daily basis, our client is based in North London and your role will be to provide a high-quality housing management and health and safety service to a small patch of properties, acting as a primary point of contact for tenants and delivering excellent customer service.

The role includes managing tenancies, carrying out health and safety inspections and compliance checks, maintaining accurate records, promoting tenant responsibilities, and taking enforcement action where required. The postholder is expected to spend approximately 70% of their time at our client's managed accommodation, ensuring effective tenancy management and compliance with health and safety standards.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Ensuring that all accommodation is safe, well-maintained, compliant, and suitable for the needs of tenants and residents, undertaking regular property, stock condition, health and safety, cleaning, and environmental inspections.
  • Maintaining compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation and organisational policies, including fire safety, gas, electrical, and building safety requirements, ensuring all records, certificates, risk assessments, inspections, and compliance documentation are accurate and up to date.
  • Delivering an outstanding housing management service, acting as a key point of contact for tenants, promoting positive tenant engagement, and ensuring services reflect our client's values and commitment to customer excellence.
  • Assessing housing applicants, allocating and letting properties, conducting viewings and tenancy sign-ups, and ensuring tenants understand their rights, responsibilities, and obligations under their tenancy agreements.
  • Building positive relationships with tenants, proactively addressing tenancy issues, anti-social behaviour, neighbour disputes, health and safety breaches, and other tenancy breaches through early intervention and appropriate enforcement action.
  • Monitoring and managing rent accounts in accordance with our client's arrears policy, including early intervention, home visits, legal action, court attendance, and eviction proceedings where necessary.
  • Coordinating and monitoring maintenance, repairs, compliance works, and actions arising from inspections and risk assessments, liaising with contractors, facilitating access, and carrying out pre- and post-inspections where required.
  • Supporting tenants to sustain their tenancies by assisting them to access services and benefits, including Universal Credit, Housing Benefit, and other relevant agencies.
  • Organising and attending tenant, house, and neighbourhood meetings, responding to complaints within agreed timescales, and working with tenants to identify priorities for property and environmental improvements.
  • Reporting compliance concerns and health and safety breaches promptly, preparing relevant documentation, and supporting enforcement actions to ensure the safety and well-being of tenants, residents, visitors, and staff.

Applicants will ideally possess

  • A minimum of two years' experience working in housing, supported housing, health and safety, or a related environment.
  • Experience of conducting property, health and safety, or compliance inspections and maintaining appropriate records.
  • Familiarity with health and safety policies, procedures, and compliance requirements within housing, supported housing, or a similar setting.
  • Experience of working with tenants, contractors, landlords, and external agencies to resolve issues and achieve positive outcomes.

Whilst a car driver/owner would be desirable, this is not essential. Only applicants who feel they meet the above criteria and are comfortable working in North London need apply.
