Job Description

GitHub Platform Engineer

  • Duration: 6 months + Extensions
  • Day Rate: TBC via Umbrella Engagement
  • Location: South-East (Remote Flexibility)

A global insurance group is moving the management of its GitHub Enterprise estate to infrastructure as code and requires a senior GitHub Platform Engineer to build the solution.

The role will develop the GitOps code that provisions and governs repositories, teams, security controls and rulesets, integrated with local and group identity and access management.

Changes will no longer be made manually, so everything is created consistently, is auditable and is in line with DORA and GDPR obligations. This is an engineering role rather than a GitHub administration role, and the successful candidate will be the named owner of the GitOps work.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the IaC/GitOps code that provisions and governs the GitHub Enterprise estate
  • Build and maintain the GitHub Actions pipelines that apply changes
  • Extend the existing codebase as well as contributing new code
  • Produce designs and take them through sign-off with Information Security and Enterprise Architecture
  • Take the work end to end with the Project Manager, Information Security and Enterprise Architecture
  • Evaluate and work with group colleagues in Europe who are implementing a GitHub GitOps solution the UK business may adopt
  • Contribute to standards and best practice

Requirements

  • Strong GitOps and GitHub engineering experience
  • Coding in TypeScript, Python and/or Terraform and confident working in existing codebases
  • Solid CI/CD, GitHub Actions and GitOps knowledge
  • Uses AI coding tools such as Claude Code to accelerate delivery
  • Able to communicate designs, not just code, to senior security and architecture stakeholders
  • Works well with external teams
  • Awareness of identity and access management policies
