Role: Java Developer
SFIA Level: 4
Rate: £500 per day (Inside IR35)
Location: Remote with occasional travel to Newcastle
Clearance: Active SC Clearance Required
Interview Process: One-stage interview

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Java Developer to join a high-profile delivery team working on the development and enhancement of modern digital services. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining secure, scalable, and high-performing applications within an Agile environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a developer with strong Java expertise who enjoys collaborating with cross-functional teams and contributing to the delivery of critical projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality Java applications.
  • Build and enhance RESTful APIs and Back End services.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, testers, and business stakeholders.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support the implementation of CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across the application life cycle.
  • Contribute to Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience developing applications using Java.
  • Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
  • Knowledge of modern software engineering practices and design patterns.
  • Experience with Git and source control management.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.

Essential Requirements

  • Active SC Clearance is mandatory.
  • Experience operating at SFIA Level 4 or equivalent.
  • Must be willing to travel to Newcastle on an occasional basis.
  • Eligible to work in the UK.

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience delivering projects within the public sector or government environments.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • Experience with microservices architecture.
  • Knowledge of containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Understanding of DevOps principles and modern deployment practices.
