ABOUT THE ROLE
Client is seeking a seasoned Apigee Architect to lead API migration and onboarding acceleration for a major US financial institution. This is a high-visibility, client-facing role requiring Day 1 readiness. The Architect will serve as the primary technical interface between Cognizant delivery PODs and the client''s platform and LOB teams, owning solution architecture, standards enforcement, and technical governance across the engagement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Own end-to-end solution architecture for API onboarding and Azure APIM-to-Apigee Hybrid migration across multiple waves.
• Serve as primary technical interface with client platform and LOB teams; drive daily architecture and platform sync.
• Define and enforce API design standards, proxy patterns, shared flows, and security policies (OAuth 2.0, mTLS, rate limiting, logging).
• Lead technical governance across PODs — code reviews, design reviews, template standardization.
• Guide and enable client teams through knowledge transfer, enabling them to independently sustain the platform post-engagement.
• Collaborate with PwC on environment readiness, infrastructure handoff points, and joint onboarding planning.
• Drive reuse by developing and maintaining reusable proxy templates, CI/CD pipeline patterns, and API playbooks.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 10+ years of integration/API architecture experience
• 5+ years hands-on Apigee (Edge, Hybrid, or Apigee X) in enterprise environments
• Deep expertise in API security: OAuth 2.0, JWT, mTLS, rate limiting, PII masking
• Proven experience leading API gateway migration programs (Azure APIM, MuleSoft, or similar to Apigee)
• Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines: GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Postman/Karate
• Experience in regulated banking/financial services environments (PCI-DSS, OSFI, PIPEDA)
• Excellent client communication and stakeholder management skills
• Must be eligible to work in Canada; Toronto-based (in-office requirement)
NICE TO HAVE
• Experience with Apigee Hybrid on Google Cloud Platform/Azure infrastructure
• Familiarity with GraphQL, SOAP, and XML API patterns
• Google Cloud Professional API Engineer or Apigee certification
• Prior COE / C4E engagement model experience
