Job Description

Lead Active Directory & Entra ID Engineer
Join a large enterprise authentication and identity infrastructure team supporting one of the most complex Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID environments at scale. This 12-month W2 contract with possible extension is a hybrid opportunity available in Charlotte, NC; Columbus, OH; Irving, TX; Minneapolis, MN; or Chandler, AZ. You'll work across a highly available environment that includes 300+ domain controllers, approximately 300,000 Entra ID users, hundreds of thousands of joined devices, and Virtual Directory Services, with responsibility for keeping critical authentication infrastructure stable, secure, and resilient.
This isn't an account provisioning or routine Active Directory administration position. The team is looking for a true lead-level infrastructure engineer and SME who can walk into a large, complex identity environment, troubleshoot issues others can't easily solve, challenge existing approaches, and identify better ways to engineer and operate the platform. You'll have the opportunity to influence technical direction, improve processes, create new procedures, and solve high-impact authentication problems across enterprise applications. If you're naturally curious, proactive, and enjoy figuring out why something isn't working rather than simply following a runbook, this is the type of role where that mindset will be valued.
Contract Duration: 12 Months with Possible Extension
Required Skills & Experience
  • 5+ years of Information Security Engineering, identity infrastructure, or equivalent engineering experience
  • Advanced hands-on experience supporting enterprise-scale Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS)
  • Strong Microsoft Entra ID engineering and troubleshooting experience
  • Experience supporting large, highly available identity and authentication environments
  • Experience building, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting domain controllers
  • Strong understanding of Active Directory replication, authentication, disaster recovery, backup, and infrastructure health
  • Experience troubleshooting complex authentication and connectivity issues involving enterprise applications
  • Strong knowledge of Entra ID Conditional Access, authentication controls, and enterprise application integrations
  • Experience evaluating high-impact infrastructure changes and identifying potential operational or security risks
  • Ability to independently diagnose complex problems that do not have predefined solutions or procedures
  • Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to work effectively with application teams, operations teams, engineers, and business stakeholders
  • Proactive engineering mindset with the ability to identify platform improvements and develop new processes and procedures
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Experience with Virtual Directory Services (VDS) and/or RadiantOne Virtual Directory Server
  • Experience with directory virtualization, LDAP federation, identity data aggregation, or identity abstraction
  • Experience supporting authentication and identity infrastructure across hybrid environments
  • Experience with identity synchronization and federation technologies
  • Experience supporting enterprise application onboarding and Entra ID administrative consent
  • Experience troubleshooting Conditional Access and risky sign-in scenarios
  • Experience supporting environments with large numbers of users, devices, domain controllers, and enterprise applications
  • Experience developing or modernizing operational procedures, engineering standards, and platform documentation
  • Previous experience serving as a technical SME or escalation point within an enterprise identity infrastructure team

  • Investigate complex Entra ID authentication issues, including Conditional Access and risky sign-in scenarios
  • Partner with application teams to diagnose authentication and identity integration problems
  • Review and evaluate proposed identity infrastructure changes where failures could have significant production impact
  • Support disaster recovery, backup, monitoring, and operational readiness of Active Directory environments
  • Provide subject-matter expertise for Active Directory, Entra ID, authentication, federation, synchronization, and Virtual Directory Services
  • Identify opportunities to improve the platform rather than simply maintain existing processes
  • Develop, improve, and document engineering standards, procedures, and operational practices
  • Serve as a senior technical escalation point for complex identity and authentication infrastructure issues
  • Collaborate with engineering, application, customer service, and operations teams to resolve high-impact production issues
