Job Description

We are looking for a highly experienced Mechatronics Test Engineer with 7+ years of hands-on experience in hardware development, test engineering, reliability, or systems integration. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with robotics, complex automation, automotive, aerospace, or advanced hardware R&D environments.

This is an engineering-focused role requiring ownership of technical execution from test planning and fixture development through hardware bring-up, debugging, reliability testing, failure analysis, and documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate test benches for prototype robotic and mechatronic hardware.

  • Develop comprehensive test plans, test methods, acceptance criteria, and test procedures.

  • Design and build custom test fixtures, jigs, and hardware setups.

  • Perform characterization and functional testing of mechatronic systems.

  • Conduct hardware bring-up, integration, debugging, and validation.

  • Test actuators, sensors, batteries, power systems, electronics, and robotic manipulation systems.

  • Perform PCB bring-up and troubleshoot issues at the component, board, and system levels.

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, PCB layouts, and mechanical drawings.

  • Validate and troubleshoot CAN, EtherCAT, and RS-485 communication interfaces.

  • Use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, signal analyzers, and other diagnostic equipment.

  • Perform root-cause analysis and failure investigation for hardware issues.

  • Develop and maintain failure-analysis reports and laboratory debug procedures.

  • Design and execute reliability and environmental testing, including:

    • HALT

    • HASS

    • ALT

    • Thermal cycling

    • Vibration testing

    • Mechanical stress testing

    • Long-duration soak testing

  • Analyze reliability and failure data and work with hardware engineers on design improvements.

  • Provide DFM/DFA feedback based on hands-on build and integration experience.

  • Support prototype hardware builds involving actuators, sensors, compute modules, and power-distribution systems.

  • Maintain test equipment calibration records and ensure measurement accuracy.

  • Develop test automation, data logging, and analysis scripts using Python or similar languages.

  • Collaborate closely with hardware engineers, robotics engineers, AI researchers, and lab operations teams.

  • Train junior team members on test equipment and debugging methodologies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in hardware development, test engineering, reliability engineering, or systems integration.

  • Strong experience with verification and validation (V&V) of robotics, automation, automotive, aerospace, or complex hardware systems.

  • Proven experience developing test methods, test plans, test fixtures, and acceptance criteria.

  • Strong proficiency with electronic test and measurement equipment.

  • Ability to independently read and interpret:

    • Electrical schematics

    • PCB layouts

    • Mechanical drawings

  • Hands-on experience building test benches and custom fixtures from scratch.

  • Strong hardware debugging and root-cause-analysis skills.

  • Excellent technical documentation skills, including test plans, procedures, build documentation, and failure-analysis reports.

  • Ability to work hands-on with both electrical and mechanical hardware.

  • Robotics, physical AI, advanced hardware R&D, or high-DoF robotic systems experience.

  • Experience with servo drives and embedded motor-control systems.

  • Experience with FMEA, HALT/HASS, ALT, Weibull analysis, or reliability-growth methodologies.

  • Strong Python scripting experience for test automation, data logging, and analysis.

  • Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing.

  • Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Fusion 360.

  • Experience with CAN, EtherCAT, and RS-485.

  • Automotive or aerospace hardware testing experience.

  • Experience with DFM/DFA and prototype hardware integration.
