Are you an experienced Engineering Project Manager with a strong background in software development, product R&D, and integrated hardware and software systems? Do you want to take ownership of complex development projects within an innovative robotics company developing cutting-edge autonomous technology for real-world agricultural environments?

If so, our client is looking to hire an Engineering Project Manager based in Cambridge, leading the delivery of complex software-driven products across multidisciplinary engineering teams. You will be responsible for coordinating software R&D, hardware integration, product development, and validation, supporting the development of autonomous technology for customers in the UK, Australia, and the USA.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end product development projects, from initial requirements and concept development through software R&D, prototyping, system integration, testing, and validation.
  • Develop and manage project plans covering milestones, budgets, resources, dependencies, risks, and critical-path activities.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams across software development, embedded systems, electronics, mechanical engineering, and systems engineering.
  • Manage project governance, including risks, issues, change control, status reporting, stakeholder communication, and escalation.
  • Work closely with software developers and technical leads to resolve blockers, manage development priorities, and ensure product functionality, quality, reliability, and performance.
  • Oversee software and hardware integration, verification, validation, and product trials, ensuring successful progression from R&D into a fully validated product.

To be successful, you should have:

  • Proven experience as an Engineering Project Manager delivering complex software R&D or software-intensive product development projects within robotics, automation, autonomous systems, or a related engineering environment.
  • Demonstrable experience managing product development lifecycles involving software and integrated hardware, with responsibility for project delivery from development through to testing and validation.
  • Strong experience managing project scope, schedules, budgets, resources, dependencies, risks, and stakeholder expectations across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • A solid technical understanding of software development lifecycles and integrated engineering systems, with the ability to work effectively alongside software developers and engineering leads.
  • Experience using Jira, Kanban boards, and project timelines to manage software development activities, engineering backlogs, and project delivery.
