Title: SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA 4) - Contract - Columbus, OH

Location: Columbus, OH (initially remote; may move in-office). Must live in Ohio.

Type: Contract, 11/16/2026 - 06/30/2027, full time

Rate: $67.64/hr C2C or $62.84/hr W-2

Govan Systems is seeking a senior SQL Server DBA for a State of Ohio client (Dept of Rehabilitation and Correction).

Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, patch and upgrade enterprise SQL Server (on-prem and Azure)
  • - Performance monitoring and tuning: indexes, queries, blocking, deadlocks
  • - Backup/recovery and HA/DR: Always On, log shipping, failover clusters, replication
  • - Administer Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance and SQL Server on Azure VMs; on-prem to Azure migrations
  • - Security and compliance with role-based access control (RBAC)
  • - Developer support and code review; T-SQL and PowerShell automation; documentation
  • - Tier III escalation, mentoring; possible 24/7 DR/incident-response duty

Required:

  • 5+ years hands-on enterprise MS SQL Server (on-prem and Azure)
  • - 5+ years performance tuning, security/RBAC, developer support and code review
  • - Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • - SSMS, advanced T-SQL, SSIS/ETL, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Entra ID, Key Vault, Azure Backup, Redgate or similar
  • - Must pass a background/fingerprint check
