Title-Apigee Architect

Role Overview

Location-Remote

We are seeking an experienced Apigee Architect to lead the design, architecture, implementation, and governance of enterprise API platforms using Google Apigee. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in API management, API security, cloud-native integration, microservices, and enterprise architecture. This role requires close collaboration with business stakeholders, architects, development teams, and DevOps to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing API solutions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Architect enterprise API management solutions using Google Apigee X / Hybrid.
  • Design secure, scalable, and reusable API architectures aligned with enterprise standards.
  • Define API lifecycle management, governance, versioning, and security policies.
  • Develop API proxies, shared flows, API products, developer portals, and monetization strategies.
  • Design and implement OAuth2, JWT, OpenID Connect, SAML, API Keys, mTLS, and other authentication mechanisms.
  • Build RESTful APIs and integrate with enterprise applications, microservices, cloud platforms, and third-party systems.
  • Establish API governance, standards, naming conventions, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with product owners, business teams, and developers to translate business requirements into API solutions.
  • Lead performance tuning, capacity planning, monitoring, troubleshooting, and production support.
  • Mentor development teams and conduct architecture reviews and code reviews.
  • Drive API modernization initiatives and migration from legacy API gateways to Apigee.
  • Work closely with DevOps teams to automate CI/CD pipelines and API deployments.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of overall IT experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Google Apigee (Edge, X, or Hybrid).
  • Strong expertise in enterprise API Management and API Gateway architecture.
  • Experience designing enterprise-scale API ecosystems.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • REST APIs
    • SOAP Web Services
    • OpenAPI (Swagger)
    • GraphQL (preferred)
    • JSON
    • XML
    • YAML
  • Experience implementing API security:
    • OAuth 2.0
    • JWT
    • OpenID Connect (OIDC)
    • SAML
    • mTLS
    • API Keys
  • Experience integrating with:
    • Microservices
    • Kubernetes
    • Docker
    • Service Mesh
    • Event-driven architectures
  • Strong understanding of API lifecycle management and governance.
