Quick Overview
Job Description
Title: Principal Software Architect (Infrastructure)
Location: Direct-Hire/FTE - Remote (US)
Terms: Direct-Hire/FTE
Compensation: $220,000-260,000
Work Requirements: U.S. Citizen, Holders, or Authorized to Work in the U.S.
THE TEAM: We are building a mature security practice through a Security Engineering program that spans multiple teams and disciplines. The program embeds a security-first mindset across our technology and development lifecycle. Our Infrastructure Security Engineering team consults on, designs, and builds secure infrastructure that protects our systems, data, and customers. You will help us build a world-class practice that lets us deliver secure, reliable experiences for our fans.
THE JOB: You will serve as a hands-on architect who earns credibility by building working solutions, not by writing about them. Your mission is to influence infrastructure teams to confidently rearchitect systems for resilience against next generation security threats, making sound security a first-order property of how we design and build. We believe security is not a checkpoint but a continuous journey that begins at the earliest stages of development and infrastructure planning. You will influence executive and engineering stakeholders without authority and develop followership around modern Shift-Left approaches that integrate security seamlessly into the infrastructure lifecycle, leveraging purple-team dynamics to foster a proactive culture that anticipates, de-risks, and mitigates threats before they materialize. This is a principal-level role that leads through influence and long-term thinking, and you are as comfortable prototyping a solution as you are presenting it directly to SVP- and C-level executives.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
- Within six months, infrastructure teams adopt the secure patterns and reference implementations you build, and they bring you their hardest architecture decisions.
- You have shipped working prototypes that prove out Zero-Trust and modern identity approaches, shaped the security architecture roadmap, and earned the trust of engineering and executive stakeholders.
- You influence direction through demonstrated solutions rather than mandate, and teams treat sound security as a first-order property of how they design and build.
- Influence the design of secure architecture for large-scale systems, balancing flexibility, maintainability, and performance.
- Prove out solutions by building them — prototype before declaring something too difficult or unworkable.
- Assess decentralized, hybrid technical infrastructure and introduce cost-efficient measures that strengthen existing defensive resiliency.
- Introduce practical, cost-efficient, layered Zero-Trust protections into core technology infrastructure to anticipate and defend against active, sophisticated threat actors.
- Set engineering standards and reference implementations that raise the quality of secure infrastructure across teams.
- Guide infrastructure teams on proven patterns and drive cross-team alignment on architectural decisions.
- Proactively identify, anticipate, solution, and track security concerns using modern threat-modeling approaches that balance quantitative business concerns with qualitative business risks.
- Develop a deep understanding of operational dependencies across company systems to confidently model threats to business continuity and balance security risks with business priorities.
- Embed modern identity and modern continuous-delivery patterns into how teams ship.
- Anticipate challenges and avoid problems, conflicts, and rework by finding efficient, sustainable patterns to business-value delivery.
- Lead by doing — model patterns, processes, standards, and practices that materially improve how teams implement effective cyber protections across disparate technologies and architectures.
- Stay up to date with emerging threats and technologies across public and private cloud, open-source, and vendor solutions, applying them to strengthen our posture.
- 15+ years of combined experience across cybersecurity, networking, and system administration, with at least 4 years in an architecture role.
- Expert-level understanding of modern security practices, including Shift-Left, Zero-Trust, and threat modeling.
- Advanced knowledge of hybrid cloud infrastructure, specifically AWS services, Kubernetes implementations, IaC, network architecture, and PKI.
- Experience designing service-to-service communication with gRPC, RESTful APIs, and event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka).
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, or Ansible.
- Grounding in SRE principles and a metrics-driven approach to reliability and observability (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana).
- Hands-on experience with modern identity and modern continuous-delivery patterns.
- Proven ability to influence the design of large-scale systems and drive cross-team adoption through working examples.
- A track record of prototyping and shipping solutions that demonstrate architectural excellence and command technical respect.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex security concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, up to and including C-level executives.
- Hands-on experience with foundational computer science tradeoffs with systems design patterns using Golang, Python, Rust, and modern CNCF projects.
- Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field; advanced degree or relevant certifications (CISSP, CISM, etc.) preferred.
- Hands-on and decisive — you prototype before claiming something is too difficult or unworkable, and you earn credibility by demonstrating solutions that work.
- Anticipatory — you avoid problems, conflicts, and rework by finding efficient, sustainable patterns to business value delivery before challenges surface.
- Self-directed — you thrive in ambiguity, bias toward action, and own outcomes, holding yourself and your peers to progressively higher standards.
- AI-forward — you apply security-by-design and Zero-Trust in a software-oriented organization where everything is an API, or should be, and everything is automated.
- Developer''s lens — you think about business problems through a developer''s eyes, where security is enforced early in the lifecycle through interfaces developers find delightful and resiliency is a first-order concern; we are not hiring a software developer, but someone with a software-development background.
- DevSecOps depth — strong DevOps thinking, with hands-on experience in Kubernetes and networking.
- Influence without authority — exceptionally collaborative across large, complex organizations; you lead by earning trust and delivering exceptional outcomes .
- Executive presence — comfortable engaging SVP- and C-level executives directly, treating stakeholders, partners, and executives as customers you are individually accountable to; you listen first and do your homework before assuming.
- Future-pitched — you watch where the industry is heading and value hard-won incremental improvement; tenacious, hungry, eager to be challenged and stretched.
- Experience designing and implementing secure infrastructure solutions, including cloud-based and on-premises environments.
