Position Summary
The SAP AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) Functional Consultant is responsible for the design, configuration, testing, and implementation of AMI-related business processes within SAP IS-U / SAP CIS. The consultant works closely with Metering, Billing, Customer Service, Integration, and technical teams to ensure accurate smart meter data acquisition, validation, and processing across the utility meter-to-cash lifecycle.

The role serves as the functional SME for AMI processes, helping utilities leverage smart metering capabilities while ensuring seamless integration between SAP and external AMI platforms such as Head-End Systems (HES), Meter Data Management Systems (MDMS), and analytics solutions.

Key Responsibilities
Solution Design & Configuration

• Design and configure SAP IS-U / SAP CIS Device Management processes supporting AMI capabilities.
• Define functional requirements and prepare solution design documents.
• Configure meter reading, smart meter lifecycle, event management, and exception-handling processes.
• Support SAP Enterprise Device Management (EDM) and interval data-related processes where applicable.

AMI & Meter Data Integration

• Collaborate with integration teams to support interfaces between SAP and:
  • AMI Head-End Systems (HES)
  • Meter Data Management Systems (MDMS)
  • Utility analytics and digital platforms
• Validate data flows supporting:
  • Meter data synchronization
  • Billing reads
  • On-demand reads
  • Connect/disconnect processes
  • Usage and event management workflows.

Testing & Quality Assurance

• Develop and execute functional test scenarios.
• Participate in SIT, UAT, regression testing, and defect management.
• Support integration and end-to-end testing activities involving SAP, HES, and MDMS platforms.
• Help with defect triage and resolution efforts.

Data Migration & Cutover

• Support AMI-related data conversion activities.
• Assist with mock conversions, reconciliation, and production cutover planning.
• Provide stabilization and hypercare support during go-live periods.

Required Skills & Experience
Functional Expertise

• Strong knowledge of utility Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI).
• Deep understanding of smart metering and meter-to-cash business processes.
• Knowledge of interval data management and meter event processing.
• Understanding of VEE (Validation, Estimation, and Editing) principles.

SAP Experience

• SAP IS-U / SAP CIS Device Management configuration experience.
• Experience with SAP EDM (Enterprise Device Management).
• Knowledge of AMI integration patterns within SAP Utilities.
• Familiarity with meter reading and billing processes.

Integration Knowledge

• Experience integrating SAP with:
  • AMI Head-End Systems
  • MDMS platforms
  • Middleware solutions (SAP CPI, SAP BTP Integration Suite, MuleSoft, etc.)
• Understanding of AMI / MDMS interface testing and data reconciliation

Consulting Skills

• Requirements gathering and business process analysis.
• Functional specification and documentation.
• Stakeholder management and workshop facilitation.
• Strong communication and problem-solving capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor''s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
• 5–10+ years of SAP IS-U / SAP Utilities experience.
• Experience in electric, gas, or water utilities.
• Experience supporting large CIS transformations or AMI deployments.
• SAP Utilities certification (preferred).
• Knowledge of MDMS solutions such as SAP MDMS, Itron, Landis+Gyr, Oracle Utilities, or similar platforms.
