Mechanical Design Engineer

Experienced, talented Mechanical Design Engineer sought as a result of growing demands for our client’s range of bespoke locomotives focusing on zero emissions and an increasing number of exciting development programmes. Mechanical Design Engineer Role: Identifying critical problems, attending design reviews and project reviews as required.<br />Work in a simultaneous engineering environment to support product development, ensuring design for service and achieving quality by design.<br />Liaising closely with suppliers and customers to achieve high-quality, cost-effective products.<br />Keeping up to date in relevant technical areas, developing skills and capabilities, and giving support to others as required.<br />Initiating ideas and performing needs analysis.<br />Communicating technical information to customers, team members, suppliers and other business units.<br />Design detailing, bill of materials compilation and drawing release.<br />Actively participate in business unit improvement activities. Requirements:

You will be expected to demonstrate competency in ideally powertrain or vehicle systems, ideally in rolling stock or medium duty off highway sector.<br />Educated to HNC level (or equivalent) in an associated technical mechanical/automotive engineering discipline.<br />A competent 3D CAD user and a working knowledge of other associated supporting software tools.<br />Experience of mobile off-highway/vehicle equipment is beneficial.<br />5 years minimum within a hands-on design environment.<br />Diesel engine experience is beneficial.<br />Experience of 3D CAD design.<br />Experience of Welded fabrications, large assemblies, etc. is beneficial.<br />BS. 8888 drawing standards.<br />Have a hands-on approach to engineering design and development.<br />Appreciation of hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems as used on off-highway mobile products may be useful.<br />An ability to work independently and with other members of a multi-disciplined teams within the business.<br />Excellent technical aptitude.<br />Previous experience of engineering projects/activities.<br />Planning and priority setting.<br />Microsoft office This is an on-site role but offers some flexibility with working hours.
