Mechanical Design Engineer

Design Engineer – Process Plant &amp; Equipment ⏰ Full-time, permanent - 37.5hrs per week Mon - Fri<br /> West Yorkshire - Wakefield / Leeds / Bradford / Huddersfield commutable (Office-based with occasional site visits)<br /> £40,000 – £45,000 per annum, depending on experience + package Our prestigious client is an established engineering business specialising in the design and manufacture of complex, made-to-order process plant and associated systems for UK and international industrial and public-sector clients. They are now seeking a Design Engineer to lead process plant design from concept through to detailed design and calculation, with supporting structural and steelwork design forming an important part of the role. Key Responsibilities

• Lead concept, design, detail and calculation work for new and modified process plant and associated systems.
• Define process layouts, equipment arrangements and integration with existing plant, ensuring safe, efficient and maintainable designs.
• Design ducting, pipework and ancillary systems (including large diameter runs and complex bends), with appropriate supports, insulation and access considerations.
• Oversee supporting structural and steelwork design, ensuring it is fully coordinated with process requirements and site constraints.
• Produce structural calculations to verify that steelwork and supports can safely carry equipment, duct and pipe loads with suitable safety factors.
• Develop novel design solutions to accommodate new process plant within constrained, existing facilities.
• Produce detailed 3D models, general arrangements and fabrication drawings using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD. Person Specification
• HNC/HND or degree-qualified in Mechanical, Process, Chemical or Design Engineering (or equivalent experience).
• Proven experience in process plant design, ideally within industrial, environmental, energy or related sectors.
• Strong understanding of equipment layout, ducting/pipework routing and integration with supporting steelwork.
• Confident carrying out manual design calculations and applying relevant British/European standards.
• Strong working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD (2020 or later).
• Able to work independently, manage multiple design tasks, and communicate clearly with fabrication and site teams.
• A practical, problem-solving mindset with an interest in bespoke, one-off engineering solutions. Benefits
