American National Insurance Company was founded in 1905 and is headquartered in Houston, TX, with several locations across the US: League City, TX, Springfield, MO, and Glenmont, NY.
Our Summer Internship Program is designed to provide students with meaningful, real-world corporate experience while helping build a strong, long-term talent pipeline for American National. The program blends hands-on, role-related project work with intentional learning, leadership exposure, business education, and relationship-building opportunities. In addition to contributing to their respective departments, interns will participate in professional development experiences, connect with leaders through conversational Leadership Lens sessions, gain broader business perspective through cross-company spotlight sessions, and build community with fellow interns and employees across the organization.
Our 2027 summer internship program begins on Monday, May 24 th and ends on Friday, August 6 th . An optional extension to August 13 th is available. Intern positions are paid hourly with a full-time schedule of Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week, for the entirety of the program.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university
  • Junior standing or higher by the start of the internship; May 2027 graduates are welcome
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Available to work 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday
  • Able to work onsite at the posted role location

Team Description

The American National Investment Accounting team ensures the company's investment portfolio is recorded, reconciled, valued, and reported accurately and on time. The team supports financial reporting and regulatory compliance by maintaining investment records, monitoring transactions and income, researching discrepancies, and partnering with investment, finance, treasury, tax, and audit stakeholders. The team provides reliable financial information that helps leaders understand investment performance, manage risk, and make informed business decisions.

What You'll Do
  • Will assist with recurring monthly/quarterly accounting and regulatory reporting deliverables
  • Prepare and validate reports, assisting with account reconciliations, researching investment transactions, maintaining supporting documentation, organizing audit workpapers, and performing data analysis related to investment holdings and reporting controls
  • Support the team in reviewing data quality and assisting with routine operational processes that contribute to the accuracy and completeness of the company's financial reporting
  • Work closely with experienced accounting professionals, participate in team meetings, receive coaching and mentoring, and gain exposure to cross-functional business partners
  • Reconciliations & Journal Entries - Exposure to daily accounting work
  • Exposure and participation in the SAP and Clearwater system implementations
  • Investment accounting: Types of investments - Bonds & Stocks, some alternative investments

  • Blackline - For Balance sheet certifications
Qualifications We're Looking For
  • Pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Sound problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities
  • Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to accuracy
  • Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing needs
