The Analyst/Sr Analyst, Federal Affairs plays a central role in shaping American Airlines’ engagement with federal regulatory and legislative stakeholders by delivering high‑impact independent analytical and research support. This position, based in Washington DC, works on complex, fast‑moving policy issues that influence both the aviation industry and the company’s long‑term priorities, translating regulatory and legislative developments into clear insights that guide strategic decision‑making. Through close collaboration with internal leaders and external partners, the Analyst/Sr Analyst helps ensure the company remains informed, proactive, and well‑positioned in the federal policy environment.
Pay Range: $72,000-$131,000

• Analyze applicable federal actions, enforcement trends, and policy developments affecting the airline industry
• Conduct research and prepare summaries, briefings, and recommendations for senior leaders within Government Affairs and across the company
• Manage certain company compliance programs and assist in responding to enforcement actions
• Monitor, track, and analyze rulemakings, legislative proposals, and executive branch initiatives relevant to American Airlines’ business objectives
• Synthesize complex regulatory and policy information into clear, actionable insights
• Support cross‑functional coordination on regulatory and policy matters, ensuring alignment between Government Affairs and internal business units
• Assist in developing strategies for regulatory engagement, compliance considerations, and advocacy planning
• Prepare materials for internal and external meetings, including talking points, power point presentations, background documents, and analytical reports
All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, economics, business, law, or a related field
• 3 years of experience conducting substantive federal regulatory or legislative issues, either in government, industry, consulting, or a related environment
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
• Recent experience working in or with federal agencies, and/or congressional offices
• Experience evaluating enforcement actions and responding to agency inquiries
• Experience with regulatory compliance
• Familiarity with aviation, transportation, or other highly regulated industries
• Experience supporting strategic decision‑making through policy analysis or regulatory research
• Ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively across diverse teams
Skills, Licenses & Certifications
• Ability to evaluate regulatory actions, enforcement trends, and policy proposals
• Proficiency in gathering, interpreting, and summarizing complex information
• Strong writing, presentation, and briefing capabilities
• Ability to connect policy developments to business implications
• Ability to manage timelines, deliverables, and cross‑functional collaboration
• Demonstrated ability to independently research, interpret, and synthesize complex policy information
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical material into clear insights
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook), including developing executive‑ready presentations and analytical materials
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment with minimal supervision
