Software Engineer - Data Systems | Rocky Program
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico (On-site)
Alternate Location: El Segundo, CA, Kent, WA
Role Overview
This position supports database architecture, data storage planning, and database design activities. The selected candidate will architect, design, develop, and test a data system to handle large data and video demands. The role will initially focus on architecture, planning, and design, with limited coding at the outset.
Key Responsibilities

• Support database architecture and planning activities.
• Understand the interface between processing large amounts of data and how it will be stored.
• Map out database structures and the overall database design.
• Utilize cloud-based tools to evaluate database solutions and support planning activities.
• Develop queries and evaluate approaches for storing, retrieving, transferring, and deleting data.
• Partner with stakeholders to translate software requirements and models.
• Lead software system-level analyses to identify risks and opportunities.

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree or higher.
Experience: 5-10 years of related work experience is preferred. A minimum of 3+ years' experience with large Database Management Systems (DBMS) is required.
Technical Skills:

• Proficiency in SQL, including complex queries, stored procedures, and triggers.
• Experience in database design.
• Foundational Computer Science knowledge, including object-oriented design and software patterns.
• Knowledge of Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes, such as SSIS.
• Familiarity with data backup and recovery techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud databases.
• Experience with large-scale data systems.
• Experience with one or more of the following: Java, C++, Python, JS frameworks (REACT, jQuery UI, Open Layers), Spring Framework, Hibernate, RDBMS, MongoDB, REST, and OpenAPI.
• Experience using dependency management and automation services (e.g., Ivy, Maven, Gradle, Git, Jenkins).
• Experience using cloud-based infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure).
• Familiarity with practices such as test-driven development (TDD), agile software development, and CI/CD management.
• Experience with data system optimization, including performance tuning and indexing.
• Experience with RDBMS (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) data systems.
